Objective:
As a Specialist, the person shall possess strong knowledge in Energy management system for isolated or hybrid power plant systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- He/she will design and implement Energy Management Systems (EMS) for hybrid power plants combining photovoltaic (PV), battery energy storage systems (BESS), and wind energy.
- He/she will ensure the integration of control systems with energy generation assets, including PV, wind, and BESS, to optimize performance and meet operational goals.
- He/she will work closely with project teams to ensure that EMS configurations are compatible with system requirements, grid code compliance, and project specifications.
- He/she should have in-depth experience with communication protocols for Hybrid Power Controllers (HPC) and Primary Power Controllers (PPC), ensuring effective data exchange and control between energy systems and the grid.
- He/she will manage communication setups for master-slave relationships in hybrid energy systems, ensuring reliable data flow and control between power plants and the grid, especially with HPC and PPC systems.
- He/she will oversee the integration and configuration of communication standards for PPC/HPC systems, including IEC 61850, Modbus, and DNP3, ensuring seamless interoperability between controllers, inverters, storage systems, and grid operators.
- He/she will be responsible for selecting and specifying EMS controllers based on the technical, operational, and cost requirements of each project.
- He/she will evaluate various EMS controller options and technologies, ensuring the selection aligns with grid code requirements, system capabilities, and integration needs.
- He/she will collaborate with vendors and suppliers to select the most appropriate EMS controllers that are scalable, reliable, and compatible with the project’s overall control and communication architecture.
- He/she will ensure that all EMS configurations and operations comply with local and international grid code standards, including voltage regulation, frequency control, reactive power compensation,
fault ride-through, and other grid stability requirements.
- He/she will analyze grid compliance requirements for PV+BESS+Wind hybrid systems and ensure that the EMS meets dynamic grid requirements for voltage sags, frequency deviations, and grid faults.
- He/she will review and monitor grid code specifications, such as IEC 61727, IEC 61400-21 for wind turbines, and IEC 62116 for grid-connected PV systems, and implement necessary changes to the EMS to meet evolving grid standards.
- He/she will ensure that response times for inverters, controllers, and other power electronics meet the grid code requirements for dynamic performance, including voltage regulation, frequency control, fault ride-through, and reactive power compensation.
- He/she will conduct regular testing and monitoring to verify the response times of inverters and controllers, ensuring that they adhere to specified limits for grid stability.
- He/she will lead efforts to optimize the communication and control system response times, ensuring real-time grid integration and compliance with dynamic grid conditions.
- He/she will collaborate with design, engineering, and commissioning teams to integrate EMS with other plant control systems such as SCADA, protection relays, and inverters.
- He/she will perform testing of the EMS to ensure that all systems are operating according to design specifications, and that data communications between plant components and the grid are functional and compliant with standards.
- He/she will lead discussions with vendors and third-party suppliers to specify and integrate EMS components, ensuring compatibility with the overall system design and grid integration requirements.
- He/she will work closely with vendors to select EMS hardware and software that will ensure seamless integration of renewable energy systems with the grid.
- He/she will be responsible for ensuring that EMS systems meet the grid operator’s requirements and standards, as well as ensuring that all integration points are well-documented and coordinated for smooth commissioning.
- He/she will collaborate with grid operators and ensure that the integration of renewable systems follows established grid standards for communication, monitoring, control, and data exchange.
- He/she will monitor and analyse system performance, identifying areas for improvement in energy management and grid integration.
- He/she will provide technical support and troubleshooting during operation, ensuring EMS optimizes power generation, storage, and consumption in real-time.
- He/she will use EMS to balance supply and demand, ensuring grid stability while maximizing the efficiency and output of PV, BESS, and wind systems.
- He/she will identify risks associated with communication failures, grid code violations, or system performance degradation, and take corrective action as needed.
- He/she will provide reports on system performance, grid compliance, and energy production, ensuring stakeholders are informed of potential issues and opportunities for improvement.
- He/she will lead post-commissioning evaluations to improve future system deployments.
- He/she will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including grid operators, utility companies, and project teams, to ensure all aspects of the EMS align with operational and regulatory goals.
- He/she will provide technical training and guidance to field engineers and operators, ensuring they understand the proper use and troubleshooting of EMS systems.
