Job Profile Summary :

The Migration Architect is a fixed member of the VCF9 Migration Factory Delivery Pod's Lead & Design tier and must hold a VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) certification. The role owns migration patterns per offering (Enterprise / Edge / Cloud), SDDC to VCF mapping, rollback design, and reference runbooks.

The architect reviews and approves designs, adjudicates exceptions, and owns technical risk before it can impact a wave. They collaborate with the Senior Technical Consultant on wave readiness and with the Technical Project Manager on schedule and RAID items tied to design decisions, and work closely with key technical personnel of client organizations.

Key Responsibilities :

- Designs migration patterns per offering type (Enterprise, Edge, Cloud) for SDDC-to-VCF transitions, including workload domain architecture, NSX network virtualization design, and vSAN storage design.




- Reviews and approves migration and rollback designs produced by the Senior Migration Engineer and Migration Engineer (mid); adjudicates design exceptions and owns technical risk before it can impact a wave.
- Authors and maintains reference runbooks and reusable, repeatable toolsets, components, and modules for VCF migration patterns for use across other Delivery Pods and clients.
- Serves as the lead technical architect on complex VCF9 migration engagements, coordinating with the Senior Technical Consultant on wave readiness and with the Technical Project Manager on schedule and RAID risk items tied to design decisions.
- Collaborates with the Automation Engineer to ensure Terraform, PowerCLI, Ansible, and HCX automation aligns with approved migration and rollback designs.
- Performs architecture-level network and storage analysis (vSphere, vSAN, NSX) for client environments, identifies deficiencies, and recommends and approves improvements for stabilization.
- Generates and maintains configuration and design documents for all client production VCF environments.
- Works with external customers, internal support, and build teams to determine how best to leverage VCF APIs, infrastructure-as-code, and other DevOps techniques to improve migration delivery quality, speed, and experience.
- Serves as a mentor to the Senior Migration Engineer, Migration Engineer (mid), and Network/NSX Engineer on VMware Cloud Foundation architecture practices.
- Develops and implements best practices for Delivery Pod migration design and rollback processes.

Knowledge :

- Advanced knowledge of VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) architecture, including SDDC Manager, workload domains, and lifecycle management.
- Advanced knowledge of vSphere, vSAN,



and NSX design and migration patterns across Enterprise / Edge / Cloud offerings.
- Advanced knowledge of OS technologies for customer configuration : Windows, RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu, etc.
- Advanced knowledge of more than one IaaS platform(s) AWS (preferred), Azure, Google, VMware Cloud.
- Advanced understanding of infrastructure automation tooling (Terraform, PowerCLI, Ansible, HCX, CloudFormation).
- Advanced knowledge of cloud services, methodologies, best practices, and tools.

Education :

- Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in a field related to role. At the managers discretion, additional relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement.

Certifications :

- VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) certification required.
- VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP) or VMware Certified Design Expert (VCDX) strongly preferred.
- ITIL certification preferred. Additional business-focused and product certifications highly desired.

Experience :

- 8 11 years of experience in the field of role required, including significant experience architecting VMware SDDC/VCF environments and leading migration design at scale.

Physical Demands :

- General office workplace.
- May require long periods sitting and viewing a computer monitor.
- Moderate levels of stress may occur at times.
- No special physical demands required.

Travel :

- Domestic travel required, up to 50%, primarily for wave-readiness reviews and critical design workshops.
