Role Overview: A creative resource with strong analysis skills / analytical background. 3-4 years of experience minimum. Strong mix of creative background and analytical skills (story analysis, performance data, research).
Experience with editorial analysis, revision, line and copy editing, and proofreading in a high volume workplace. Comfort with data + analysis, especially when paired with creative works. Strong left brain/right brain instincts to leverage data, analysis, and consumer/user insights to drive creative analysis and recommendations.
Overall Responsibilities:
- Deep analytical and subjective story analysis of current stories: summaries, character and story arcs, trope analysis, alignment to US audience preferences, Pocket FM user preferences, and Audio storytelling
- Data analysis on show retention, episodic retention, user cohorts to determine strengths and weaknesses that help drive creative decision making for each story
- Conduct detailed user / comment analysis and surveys to deeply understand audience perception of each story that help drive creative decision-making for each story
- Conduct market research as directed by Editorial Leads and Senior Editors to uncover valuable insights around market preference and audience/demographic preferences
- Set up and conduct tests (A/B, quasi, temporal) to assess the impact of editorial decisions on the success of the story

- Story Kickoff (first half of Story Bible)
- Ensure clean handoff at H20 / H30 / H40 transitions.

Prepare Stories for Senior Editors to assess contract readiness & hygiene
- Confirm hygiene checks (plagiarism, violations, writer inactivity).
- Run extended plagiarism checks when required.
- Clearly document red flags and risks before Senior Editor outreach.
Contests:
Contest Funnel Ownership
- Own large-scale narrowing of contest submissions.
- Perform triage using defined frameworks (A/B/C/D tagging).
- Identify early narrative signals:
- Hook strength
- Genre and trope alignment
- Concept clarity
- Conduct data + narrative cross-checks where available (activation, early retention, comments).
Story Evaluation & Snapshots
- Prepare concise Story Snapshots for shortlisted shows:
- Rewritten logline
- Core tropes and genre fit
- Protagonist and central conflict
- Strengths, risks, and long-form potential (40h / 60h / 100h+)
- Maintain consistent evaluation standards across analysts.
Look-Back & Recovery Loop on Contests
- Run structured look-back reviews when finalists stall or drop.
- Surface overlooked candidates due to:
- Mis-labeled genres
- Strong data masked by weak summaries
- Early confusion hiding a strong narrative engine
- Protect contracting targets by quickly identifying replacements.
Voice Over Production Adaptation VOA & Audio Production Editorial Oversight
- Lead VOA (Voice-Over Adaptation) and SFX editorial preparation for approved shows, ensuring scripts are fully production-ready prior to recording.
- Perform localized script edits including light dialogue refinement, clarity improvements, and cohesion fixes, while preserving author voice and narrative intent.
- Strengthen cliffhangers, emotional beats, and pacing through targeted line-level edits without altering core story structure.
- Add and refine SFX and music cues to enhance emotional impact, narrative clarity, and listener engagement, following internal audio standards.
- Serve as the primary editorial point of contact with the Production team during the recording process, facilitating clear communication between Creative Development Leads (CDLs) and production stakeholders.
- Ensure all scripts are fully annotated, version-controlled, and ready for handoff to recording, sound design, and post-production teams.
- Conduct quality control reviews of recorded episodes to identify performance issues, missing or incorrect SFX, continuity errors, or production oversights.
- Audit completed episodes and provide structured, actionable feedback to the Production team to address issues efficiently.
- Own final editorial sign-off on recorded audio episodes, confirming alignment with narrative intent, audio quality standards, and release readiness.
Other:
- Support strategic initiatives through story analysis, data analysis, comment analysis, and editorial review.
KPIs:
- Contract to PPV conversion rate
- of 40H+ shows delivered successfully to PPV
- Success rate and overall impact of editorial changes implemented
