Role Overview
Assistant Manager/ Manager – Buying & Planning is responsible for driving merchandise strategy, assortment planning, inventory optimization, and sales growth . This role ensures the right product is available at the right time, quantity, and price to maximize profitability and customer satisfaction.
? Key Responsibilities
1. Merchandise Planning & Forecasting
- Develop seasonal and annual merchandise plans aligned with business goals
- Forecast sales, demand, and inventory requirements
- Plan category-wise budgets (OTB – Open to Buy)
- Monitor sell-through, stock turns, and inventory health
1. Buying & Assortment Strategy
- Define product assortment mix based on trends, customer insights, and past performance
- Collaborate with design and sourcing teams for product selection
- Ensure category balance (price points, styles, depth vs width)
- Track competitor assortment and pricing benchmarks
1. Inventory & Allocation Management
- Optimize inventory across stores and warehouses
- Ensure right stock allocation by region/store performance
- Monitor slow-moving and fast-moving inventory
- Drive markdown and liquidation strategies
1. Vendor & Sourcing Coordination
- Work closely with vendors for timely deliveries
- Negotiate pricing, lead times, and margins
- Track order status and manage supply risks
1. Sales & Performance Analysis
- Analyze daily/weekly/monthly sales reports
- Identify gaps and opportunities for growth
- Drive actions for improving sell-through and margins
- Prepare business review presentations
1. Cross-functional Collaboration
- Align with VM, Marketing, and Retail teams for launches and promotions
- Support campaign planning (EOSS, seasonal launches, etc.)
- Ensure product availability for key business events
1. Team Management
- Lead and mentor planning/buying team members
- Set targets and review team performance
- Build analytical and business capabilities within the team
