Position: Associate Professor (Automation and Robotics) Re-advertisement Job type Full Time Category Academic Location / Branch University of Namibia / Jose Eduardo Dos Santos Campus Closing Date 21 August 2026 (2 weeks from now) The appointee will provide academic leadership in the areas of teaching, research, and innovation related to Industrial Automation, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, and Smart Manufacturing Systems.

Key responsibilities include developing and delivering courses on topics such as robotics, automation, mechatronics, industrial control systems, PLC programming, machine vision, artificial intelligence, digital twins, and Industry 4.0 technologies. Additionally, the role involves supervising postgraduate students and managing industry-based projects, as well as establishing and overseeing advanced robotics and automation laboratories. The incumbent will lead research efforts focused on intelligent manufacturing systems and industrial digitalization, secure external funding, and build strategic partnerships with research institutions and industry.

This position also entails supporting initiatives for industrial modernization, fostering entrepreneurship and innovation,



and contributing to the development of highly skilled graduates. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in advancing Namibia’s industrial transformation, including mining automation, modernization of manufacturing processes, and the growth of the emerging green hydrogen economy.

Requirements Should be in possession of a Mechanical Engineering PhD degree, specialized in Automation and Robotics. Three (3) years of service as Senior Lecturer and a satisfactory record of teaching, research and publications, and service to the academic and wider community.

A cumulative record of seventeen (17) publications, of which seven (7) must be refereed scholarly research outputs and must have been published since becoming Senior Lecturer; Of these, at least three (3) of the publications must be refereed journal articles.
