This outlines an AOSP Android Telephony Engineer role focusing on 4G and 5G wide area network (WAN) layers, spanning the Android framework down to the Radio Interface Layer (RIL) and modem interactions.
Role Overview
Job Title: Senior AOSP Android Telephony Engineer (WAN/Modem)
Experience Level: 5 to 10+ years
Location: Bangalore
Core Focus: Android Telephony Framework, WAN,RIL, 4G/5G Radio Access Technology (RAT), IMS, and vendor modem integration.
Key Responsibilities
Framework Development: Design and maintain Android Telephony subsystem features in Java/Kotlin (TelephonyRegistry, PhoneSubInfo, SubscriptionController).
RIL Integration: Implement and debug RIL (Radio Interface Layer) C++ daemon, bridging Android framework requests to vendor RIL (libril) and AT commands.
5G/4G Feature Bring-up: Optimize Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS), Carrier Aggregation,
SA/NSA 5G handovers, and VoLTE/VoNR IMS configurations.
Debugging & Triage: Analyze radio logs (QXDM, QCAT, Logcat, ril dumps) to resolve call drops, registration failures, and data stalls.
OEM Collaboration: Work with chipset vendors (Qualcomm, MediaTek) to align radio HAL changes with standard AOSP guidelines.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Languages: Java, Kotlin, C++, C.
AOSP Knowledge: Deep understanding of Android Telephony architecture, HIDL/AIDL interfaces for Radio HAL.
Networking Standards: 3GPP specifications for LTE, 5G NR, IMS, SIP, and APN management.
Debugging Tools: Wireshark, QXDM, adb, and modem log analyzers.
