Job Title: Android Lead (Native Android)

Role Overview:

As the Android Lead at Americana, you will lead the engineering efforts across our native mobile platforms - Android, driving best practices, technical excellence, and delivery efficiency. This is a highly collaborative role requiring close coordination with engineers, designers, QA, DevOps, product managers, and business stakeholders. You’ll be expected to architect scalable solutions, mentor engineers, manage releases, and continuously improve the mobile development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership

- Lead the design, architecture, and development of robust, scalable native mobile applications for Android.
- Define and enforce mobile development standards, versioning, and branching strategies.
- Perform code reviews, approve and merge pull requests (PRs), and maintain high code quality.
- Explore and integrate current tools, technologies, and automation opportunities to improve productivity and performance.
- Drive adoption of observability practices including alerting and monitoring of app health and releases.

Project & Release Management
- Provide effort estimation for user stories, features, and bug fixes.
- Own planning and execution of sprints, releases, and mobile roadmaps across Android.
- Define and enforce bug triaging, severity classification, and escalation processes.
- Coordinate cross-functional dependencies for multi-country, multi-currency, and multi-brand mobile releases.

Team Management & Collaboration
- Act as the technical mentor for Senior and Software Engineers across both platforms.
- Guide team members on architecture, performance improvements, and platform best practices.




- Share ongoing feedback, support performance improvement plans (PIPs), and growth discussions.
- Conduct quarterly Mobile Townhalls and write internal newsletters to share team updates.

Process & Quality Enablement
- Define and drive development processes including CI/CD, TDD, and Agile ceremonies.
- Lead code documentation efforts and ensure best practices in Git hygiene and release tagging.
- Collaborate with QA, DevOps, and Design to ensure seamless, high-quality delivery.

Training, Hiring & Communication
- Identify skill gaps and plan the learning calendar for team upskilling.
- Deliver training sessions, platform updates, and internal tech talks.
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, and performance evaluations of native mobile engineers.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of experience in native mobile development - Android, with at least 2 years in a lead role.
- Proficient in Kotlin/Java, and cross-functional mobile release orchestration.
- Experience with CI/CD tools, source control systems (e.g., GitHub), and build/release pipelines.
- Strong grasp of app performance, crash analytics, and monitoring tools (e.g., Firebase, Instabug, Sentry).
- Proven ability to lead technical teams, enforce best practices, and drive continuous improvement.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Skills:
- Experience with multi-brand or multi-region app architecture.
- Familiarity with feature flag frameworks, A/B testing, or remote config tools.
- Prior exposure to App Store / Play Store release process and compliance.
