he Head of Housekeeping is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing all housekeeping operations within the hospital to ensure a clean, secure, hygienic, and infection-controlled environment for patients, visitors, and staff. The role involves supervising housekeeping personnel, maintaining quality standards, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and infection control protocols, and managing housekeeping resources efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Management
- Lead and oversee all housekeeping services across patient care areas, operating theatres, ICUs, OPDs, offices, and common areas.
- Develop and implement housekeeping policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Ensure cleanliness, sanitation, and waste management standards are consistently maintained.
- Plan and monitor daily housekeeping schedules and staffing requirements.
- Infection Prevention & Control
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control (IPC) guidelines.
- Coordinate with the Infection Control Committee to maintain hospital hygiene standards.
- Monitor cleaning and disinfection protocols for critical and non-critical areas.
- Ensure appropriate handling and disposal of biomedical and general waste as per regulatory requirements.
- Team Leadership
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate housekeeping supervisors and staff.
- Prepare duty rosters, manage attendance, leave planning, and shift allocations.
- Conduct regular training on cleaning techniques, safety, customer service, and infection control.
- Promote teamwork, discipline, and high-performance standards.
- Quality & Compliance
- Conduct regular housekeeping inspections and quality audits.
- Address patient and staff complaints related to housekeeping services promptly.
- Ensure compliance with hospital accreditation standards (such as NABH or JCI, where applicable).
- Maintain documentation, audit records, and housekeeping reports.
