Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality, evidence-based clinical care to paediatric patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
- Assess, diagnose, and manage a wide range of acute and chronic paediatric conditions, including neonatal care, respiratory conditions, infections, allergies, and developmental disorders.
- Take a lead role in managing critically ill children, including those in the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU), and provide life-saving treatments when necessary.
- Supervise the day-to-day management of paediatric patients, ensuring timely and accurate diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care.
- Perform medical procedures, including lumbar punctures, venipuncture, catheter insertions, and intubation under appropriate supervision.
- Actively participate in rounds, case discussions, and multidisciplinary team meetings for patient care management.
- Monitor patient progress, adjust treatment plans, and ensure appropriate documentation of patient history, assessments, and treatment plans.
- Provide consultation for paediatric specialties like paediatric cardiology, neurology, endocrinology, etc., in coordination with specialists.
- Administer medications and manage dosages for paediatric patients, ensuring patient safety and therapeutic effectiveness.
Supervisory & Teaching Responsibilities:
- Supervise and mentor junior medical staff, residents, and interns, providing guidance on paediatric clinical practices and patient management.
- Teach medical students and junior doctors about paediatric conditions, medical procedures, and patient care, facilitating hands-on learning experiences.
- Conduct educational sessions, workshops, and training to enhance the clinical knowledge and skills of junior staff.
- Actively contribute to continuing medical education (CME) programs, clinical audits, and quality improvement initiatives in the paediatrics department.
- Support the induction and orientation of recent staff members.
Administrative & Collaborative Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with paediatric specialists, nursing staff, allied health professionals, and hospital management to ensure optimal patient care and smooth operations.
- Contribute to departmental meetings, case reviews, and the development of clinical protocols and guidelines.
- Ensure adherence to hospital and regulatory standards regarding infection control, patient safety, and quality of care.
- Participate in hospital committees and quality assurance initiatives related to paediatrics.
- Manage medical records accurately and ensure compliance with hospital data privacy policies and regulations.
Research & Academic Responsibilities:
- Participate in clinical research projects related to paediatric medicine, including data collection, analysis, and publication in medical journals.
- Stay updated on recent advancements in paediatrics, paediatric diseases, and evidence-based treatment methods.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of clinical protocols and care pathways based on the latest research.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Educational Qualification:
- MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) or equivalent.
- Postgraduate qualification (MD/DNB) in Paediatrics or equivalent recognized by the medical council.
- Additional certifications in Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or equivalent (desirable).
- Experience:
- Minimum of 4+ years of clinical experience in Paediatrics after completing postgraduate medical training.
- Experience in managing paediatric patients in various settings, including paediatric emergencies and inpatient care.
- Licensure:
- Valid medical registration with the appropriate Medical Council (State/National).
Key Skills:
- Strong clinical knowledge and expertise in paediatric medicine, including common paediatric conditions, emergency care, and intensive care.
- Excellent diagnostic and decision-making abilities.
- Skilled in paediatric medical procedures such as intubation, lumbar puncture, and pediatric resuscitation.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex medical information to parents and caregivers in an understandable manner.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment with multidisciplinary healthcare professionals.
- Leadership skills to supervise and mentor junior medical staff.
- Proficient in using hospital IT systems, including Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
Desirable Attributes:
- Interest in paediatric subspecialties (e.g., paediatric cardiology, paediatric pulmonology, neonatology) or research.
- Active participation in academic conferences, workshops, or teaching activities.
- Experience in handling medical research projects and publishing in medical journals.
