Job Description: A Foreman / Senior Fitter in a steel manufacturing plant is a highly skilled technical leader responsible for supervising, coordinating, and executing the installation, fabrication, maintenance, and repair of heavy machinery and structural components. They ensure that production equipment (such as rotary kilns, rolling mills, and conveyors) operates efficiently while maintaining strict safety standards. Key Responsibilities

- Supervision & Leadership: Lead a crew of fitters, welders, and helpers, assigning daily tasks and ensuring production schedules are met.
- Maintenance & Repair: Perform preventive and breakdown maintenance on heavy industrial equipment, including hydraulic systems, pneumatics, conveyor systems, and cranes.
- Fabrication & Fitting: Fabricate, cut, and fit structural components (beams, columns, plates) with high precision, ensuring proper alignment, welding, and structural integrity.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Read, interpret, and work from complex technical drawings, blueprints, and layouts.
- Quality & Safety Compliance: Conduct inspections of work-in-progress, ensuring compliance with quality standards (TQM/ISO) and HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) protocols.
- Technical Troubleshooting: Diagnose, locate, and repair faults in mechanical assemblies and sub-assemblies.




- Shutdown Management: Plan and execute mechanical maintenance during plant shutdowns.

Required Qualifications & Skills

- Experience: 5–10 years of experience as a fitter or supervisor in a steel plant, rolling mill, or heavy fabrication industry.
- Education: ITI in Fitter trade or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (preferred).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in welding (MIG, TIG, Arc), gas cutting, structural fitting, and using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, levels).
- Soft Skills: Strong leadership, communication, team-management, and problem-solving abilities.

Typical Work Environment

- Fast-paced, noisy, and hot manufacturing setting.
- Involves working at heights or in confined spaces.
