Job SummaryNuclear Medicine Physician is responsible for protected prescription, administration and supervision of diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures, ensuring optimal patient care, radiation safety, regulatory compliance and adherence to AERB guidelines. This role includes patient counselling, staff training, radiation protection oversight, and coordination with regulatory authorities as and when required or instructed by HOD / ManagementEducation:MBBS, DNB, MD Postgraduate qualification in Nuclear Medicine, such as:MD (Nuclear Medicine), orDM (Nuclear Medicine), orDNB (Nuclear Medicine) (National Board of Examinations)AERB–approved Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) certification / eligibility, as applicableValid registration with State Medical Council / NMCKey Skills / ExperienceExperience in PET-CT, SPECT, and advanced nuclear medicine proceduresTraining or certification in PET radiopharmaceuticalsFamiliarity with AERB, NABH and institutional regulatory requirementsPrimary ResponsibilitiesPrescribe, supervise and ensure accurate administration of radiopharmaceuticals, including patient counselling on radiation safety and post-procedure precautions.Ensure appropriate selection and optimal use of radiopharmaceuticals with continuous monitoring of procedures and patient positioning to minimize radiation exposure.Maintain and oversee complete and accurate documentation of all procedures, including patient details, type of study/therapy,
radiopharmaceuticals used and dosage administered.Evaluate and justify diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, with special consideration for high-risk groups such as pregnant and lactating patients, ensuring fetal/infant radiation exposure remains within permissible limits.Apply appropriate dosimetric principles, including pediatric dose optimization and dose fractionation strategies in radionuclide therapy to balance clinical benefit and radiation risk.Ensure compliance with radiation safety regulations, including implementation of isolation protocols for patients receiving high-dose radionuclide therapy to prevent contamination and minimize exposure to staff, patients, and the public.Obtain informed consent prior to therapeutic procedures and provide clear guidance on post-therapy precautions, including pregnancy avoidance where applicable.Additional ResponsibilitiesInstruct, train, and sensitize nursing and technical staff on radiation safety practicesAdvise and assist the licensee in establishing and maintaining an effective radiation protection programEnsure safety, security and containment of radioactive sourcesEnsure radiation monitoring instruments are functional and calibrated at regular intervalsEstablish emergency response procedures and conduct periodic emergency drillsEnsure segregation, monitoring, interim storageand final disposal of radioactive waste as per regulations
