JOB DESCRIPTIONPHARMACIST

Position: Pharmacist

Department: Pharmacy

Organization: Medscape Healthcare Pvt. Ltd. / Medscape Clinic

Location: Medscape Clinic, Kesavanpady, Ernakulam, Kerala

Employment Type: Full time

Reporting To: Centre Manager / Centre Head

Experience: 1–3 Years preferred

Qualification: D.Pharm / B.Pharm from a recognized institution

Registration: Valid State Pharmacy Council Registration is mandatory

- JOB PURPOSE The Pharmacist will be responsible for the protected, accurate and efficient dispensing of medicines, maintaining pharmacy inventory and records, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing appropriate medication-related guidance to patients.

The Pharmacist shall also support the smooth day-to-day operation of the clinic pharmacy and coordinate effectively with doctors, nurses, laboratory staff, billing personnel and the management team.

- KEY RESPONSIBILITIESA. Prescription & Medicine Dispensing

- Receive and verify prescriptions issued by authorized medical practitioners.
- Dispense medicines accurately according to the prescription.
- Verify medicine name, strength, dosage form, quantity, expiry date and batch number before dispensing.
- Ensure the correct medicine is supplied to the correct patient.
- Explain dosage, frequency, route of administration and basic precautions to patients wherever appropriate.
- Identify and escalate unclear, incomplete or potentially inappropriate prescriptions to the concerned doctor.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

B. Pharmacy Operations
- Ensure the pharmacy is maintained in a clean, organized and professional manner.
- Follow proper storage conditions for medicines, vaccines and other pharmaceutical products.
- Maintain appropriate segregation of medicines based on storage and handling requirements.
- Follow FEFO (First Expiry, First Out) principles.
- Monitor near-expiry and expired medicines and ensure appropriate segregation and disposal procedures.
- Ensure proper handling and documentation of controlled / scheduled medicines as applicable.

C. Inventory Management
- Maintain adequate stock levels based on consumption and clinic requirements.
- Prepare purchase requirements and stock requisitions.
- Monitor stock movement and identify fast-moving, slow-moving and non-moving medicines.
- Conduct periodic physical stock verification.
- Reconcile physical stock with pharmacy records / software.
- Minimize stock-outs, overstocking and medicine wastage.
- Maintain proper records for damaged, expired, returned and short-supplied medicines.
- Coordinate with approved vendors and the management team for procurement.

D. Billing & Cash Management
- Generate accurate pharmacy bills for patients.
- Ensure correct pricing, discounts and quantities are entered into the billing system.
- Collect payments through approved payment modes.




- Maintain daily pharmacy cash and transaction records.
- Reconcile pharmacy collections with system records.
- Report discrepancies immediately to the Centre Manager / Management.

E. Patient Service
- Provide courteous and professional service to all patients and attendants.
- Assist patients in understanding the proper use of medicines.
- Provide basic information regarding dosage, timing, storage and precautions as appropriate.
- Maintain a patient-friendly and service-oriented approach.
- Handle patient queries and complaints professionally and escalate unresolved issues.

F. Coordination With Clinical Team
- Coordinate with doctors regarding prescription-related clarifications.
- Coordinate with nurses regarding medication requirements for patients.
- Support the RMO and clinical team in ensuring timely availability of medicines.
- Inform the concerned doctor / clinical team about medicine availability issues or potential alternatives where required.
- Support day-care, emergency and home-care medication requirements as assigned.

G. Regulatory & Documentation
- Maintain all statutory pharmacy registers and records as required.
- Ensure that medicines are dispensed only against valid prescriptions wherever legally required.
- Maintain proper records for scheduled / controlled medicines as applicable.
- Ensure pharmacy operations comply with applicable Drugs & Cosmetics Act, Pharmacy Act, applicable Rules and other regulatory requirements.
- Maintain proper documentation for purchase, sale, returns, expiry and disposal of medicines.
- Cooperate with inspections and audits by authorized authorities.

3. QUALITY & PATIENT SAFETY The Pharmacist shall:
- Follow medication safety practices at all times.
- Double-check high-risk / high-alert medicines wherever applicable.
- Prevent dispensing errors through proper verification procedures.
- Report medication errors, near-misses and adverse drug-related incidents immediately.
- Participate in quality improvement activities and internal audits.
- Follow the clinic's SOPs, infection-control practices and patient-safety policies.

4. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI)

The Pharmacist's performance may be evaluated based on:

- Prescription dispensing accuracy
- Medication error / near-miss rate
- Stock-out frequency
- Inventory accuracy
- Expiry and wastage control
- Stock reconciliation accuracy
- Pharmacy sales and operational efficiency
- Billing accuracy
- Patient service and satisfaction
- Compliance with statutory pharmacy requirements




- Timely maintenance of pharmacy records
- Adherence to clinic SOPs and quality standards

5. QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

Essential:

- D.Pharm / B.Pharm from a recognized institution.
- Valid registration with the applicable State Pharmacy Council.
- Good knowledge of prescription medicines and basic pharmaceutical practices.
- Basic computer knowledge and ability to operate pharmacy / billing software.

Preferred:

- 1–3 years of experience in a hospital, clinic or retail pharmacy.
- Experience in hospital pharmacy operations.
- Knowledge of inventory management and pharmacy billing software.
- Experience in NABH-oriented healthcare environments.

7. WORKING CONDITIONS
- The Pharmacist may be required to work in shifts depending on clinic operating requirements.
- May be required to support extended / emergency pharmacy operations.
- Must maintain professional appearance and appropriate workplace conduct.
- Must strictly follow the organization's confidentiality, safety, infection-control and operational policies.

8. CONFIDENTIALITY The Pharmacist shall maintain strict confidentiality regarding:
- Patient information and medical records.
- Prescriptions and medication history.
- Pharmacy sales and financial information.
- Clinic operational information.
- Vendor and procurement information.
- Any confidential information accessed during employment.

Unauthorized disclosure or use of confidential information shall be treated as a serious violation of company policy.
- REPORTING STRUCTURE

Pharmacist → Centre Manager / Centre Head → Management The Pharmacist shall coordinate with:

- Doctors
- RMO
- Nursing Team
- Laboratory Team
- Billing / Front Office
- Purchase / Stores
- Home Care Team
- Centre Management

10. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform any other pharmacy-related duties reasonably assigned by the management.
- Participate in training programs, audits and quality initiatives.
- Maintain professional conduct and uphold the reputation of Medscape Clinic.
- Contribute to improving patient experience and pharmacy efficiency.
- Ensure continuous compliance with applicable laws, regulations and organizational policies.

Note: This may be modified from time to time based on operational requirements, regulatory changes and organizational policies.

Pay: ₹17,000.00 - ₹25,000.00 per month
