Description For Standard Parts, we are looking for a skilled Surface Engineering / Corrosion Protection Engineer with strong expertise in coating technologies and corrosion prevention for automotive applications. The role involves developing and implementing corrosion protection strategies, defining technical standards, and collaborating with global teams and suppliers to ensure product quality and durability. The candidate will play a key role in strengthening Daimler Truck’s corrosion protection roadmap and driving innovation in surface protection technologies.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement surface protection and corrosion prevention strategies for automotive standard Parts Conduct research, testing, and validation to identify effective materials and coating systems.
Collaborate with design and engineering teams to integrate corrosion prevention into product design.
Evaluate and select appropriate surface protection technologies (paints, coatings, galvanization, sealing, etc.).
Monitor and analyze performance of coatings under different environmental conditions.
Define and maintain technical standards (DBL standards, supplier delivery specifications) aligned with global requirements.
Drive Daimler Truck corrosion protection strategy and standards roadmap.
Manage projects related to corrosion prevention in new product development (planning, execution, tracking).
Provide short-term solutions for plant/field corrosion issues and define long-term strategies.
Build and maintain strong network with suppliers, coaters, chemistry providers, and external agencies.
Stay updated on industry trends, recent technologies, and best practices in surface protection
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in Chemical / Mechanical / Automobile Engineering.
Minimum 5+ years of experience in automotive or mechanical engineering with focus on surface engineering / corrosion protection.
Technical Expertise
Strong knowledge of coating systems and surface protection technologies (paints, base coats, top coats, adhesives, galvanization, sealing, powder coating, etc.).
In-depth understanding of corrosion mechanisms and prevention techniques (chemical and environmental factors).
Experience in defining technical standards and supplier specifications.
Hands-on experience in testing, validation, and performance evaluation of coatings.
Skills & Competencies
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Project management capability (planning, execution, monitoring).
Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Ability to manage supplier interactions and external partnerships.
Language Skills
Technical German (preferably B1 level or above; spoken preferred) - Added advantage
