Business Banking Technology executes the Technology Strategy across Business Banking through the world-leading application of technology and operations. We partner closely with the business to solve real-world problems using data and AI-driven insights, resilient platforms and modern engineering practices, delivering customer value at speed and scale.
You'll join a growing engineering organisation responsible for critical capabilities including:
Customer and colleague digital experiences
CRM and banker platform capabilities
Data-driven insights and decisioning services
AI-enabled customer engagement experiences
Shared platform services supporting Business Banking journeys

We're investing heavily in the next generation of customer channel, data and AI-enabled platforms that simplify how customers and colleagues engage with the bank. Our teams are creating modern, scalable technology that helps customers access insights, complete critical banking journeys and connect with the right banking services more easily.
As a Staff Software Engineer, you'll join one of several engineering crews across our Customer Channel & Data domain. Depending on your experience and interests, you may contribute to customer-facing channels, banker and CRM experiences, data-driven services, AI-enabled engagement platforms or core platform capabilities.
You'll help shape products used across Business Banking while influencing engineering direction across a rapidly growing technology organisation.
This is an opportunity to work on platforms undergoing significant transformation, modernising how customer and colleague experiences are delivered through contemporary cloud, data and software engineering practices.
Roles & Responsibilities:
You will be expected to perform the following tasks and responsibilities in a manner consistent with CBA's
Staff Software Engineer will work with our crew tech lead and/or other solution/ enterprise architectures and will be working in a team.
Focus on finalizing the design and overall solution for development and deployment to our cloud infrastructure.
Will optimize solutions to simplify our technology landscape.
Solve complex, technical challenges so crews can focus on business outcomes. Will be planning efficient testing strategies, considering reliable and maintainable application components.
Contributing to architectural discussions and propose improvements, role modelling standards and best practices
Actively participating in code reviews, maintain high quality code bases and assist in documentation for knowledge sharing
Work on cross-functional projects, ensuring alignment and addressing inter-dependencies
Coaching and mentoring junior members in the team
Essential Skills
Minimum exp of 11+ yrs extensive experience in designing and implementing scalable, maintainable and reliable software solutions
Proficiency in React.js, TypeScript, JavaScript,
HTML5, CSS3 / SCSS
Deep understanding of: Server-Side Rendering (SSR), React Server Components & State management solutions (Redux, Zustand, Context API)
Strong experience with Micro Frontends, Component-driven architecture, API integration patterns, Event-driven architectures.
Experience with Azure/AWS, Docker and Kubernetes, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or equivalent CI/CD platforms, Monitoring and observability tools.
Good understanding of Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress / Playwright & End-to-end and integration testing strategies.
Strong experience on Python, .NET, Go or similar up-to-date software development languages
Designing and building APIs, services and distributed systems
Microservices and event-driven architectures
Modern application design patterns including Domain-Driven Design (DDD)
Experience working across backend, frontend and integration capabilities
Safe and effective use of AI-powered engineering tools to improve development productivity and quality
Cloud & Platform: AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform and/or CloudFormation)
Engineering Excellence: CI/CD pipelines, Automated testing, Observability and monitoring, DevSecOps practices, Agile software delivery
Education Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering in Computer Science/Information Technology
