Location: KINFRA Defence Park, Ottapalam, Palakkad, Kerala
Employment: Full-time, on-site
Experience: 8–15 years
Compensation: ₹12–18 lakh per annum fixed, based on experience and suitability, plus performance linked variable pay. Higher compensation may be considered for an exceptional candidate with directly relevant experience.
About Ozak Technologies
Ozak Technologies is a DPIIT recognised startup and licensed Indian defence manufacturer specialising in thermal imaging and EO/IR systems.
We develop thermal weapon sights, surveillance systems and related electro-optical products for defence, security and other specialised applications.
We are a small team, and this is a hands on role with direct responsibility for the product. The selected candidate will report to the Managing Director.
The role
We are looking for an engineer who can take ownership of complete products and help move them from module level integration and prototypes to qualified, documented, repeatable and production ready systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Integrating thermal cores, optics, electronics, firmware and mechanical assemblies into complete products.
- Taking ownership of the product engineering lifecycle from prototype and validation through production and field support.
- Ensuring products can be manufactured repeatedly and consistently to an approved configuration.
- Managing bills of materials, engineering drawings, technical specifications, revisions and configuration baselines.
- Coordinating with internal teams, suppliers and manufacturing partners to resolve technical and production issues.
- Preparing acceptance test procedures, qualification plans, assembly instructions and service procedures.
- Supporting environmental, reliability and EMI/EMC testing.
- Preparing systems for customer evaluations, firing trials and field deployment.
- Investigating field failures, carrying out root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
- Supporting repair engineering, product upgrades and lifecycle management.
- Helping improve design for manufacture,
serviceability and overall product reliability.
What we are looking for
We are not looking for a specialist limited to one narrow engineering area.
The ideal candidate should have strong practical experience in at least one relevant engineering discipline and a good system level understanding of how mechanical, electronics, optics, firmware and manufacturing come together in a complete product.
The candidate is not expected to personally design every subsystem.
More importantly, they should be capable of understanding subsystem interactions, identifying technical risks, coordinating specialists where required and taking responsibility for the performance of the complete product.
We value engineers who are comfortable solving practical problems, working directly with hardware and taking ownership with minimal supervision. Given the safety and field reliability demands of defence EO/IR products, candidates with direct, hands on thermal imaging or defence electro optics experience will be weighted favourably during selection.
Qualifications and experience
- B.E./B.Tech. or M.E./M.Tech. in Electronics, Mechatronics, Instrumentation, Optics or a related engineering discipline.
- 8–15 years of relevant engineering experience.
Experience may be from areas such as:
- EO/IR and thermal imaging systems
- Electro-optics
- Defence electronics
- Aerospace or space systems
- Rugged electronic systems
- Industrial or scientific imaging
- Machine vision and camera systems
- Precision instrumentation
- Optical or opto-mechanical systems
- Other multidisciplinary hardware products involving electronics, mechanics, optics and embedded systems
Direct experience in thermal imaging or defence EO/IR systems will be an advantage but is not mandatory for a strong systems/product engineering candidate.
Candidates should ideally have:
- Hands on experience in system integration, testing, debugging and product validation.
- Experience taking a hardware product from prototype or engineering build toward production.
- Understanding of electronics, embedded firmware and mechanical integration at system level.
- Practical understanding of mechanical packaging, sealing, thermal management, optical alignment or precision assembly.
- Experience working with suppliers and resolving component, manufacturing and integration issues.
- Ability to prepare clear technical documentation, test procedures, engineering records and reports.
- Exposure to environmental, reliability or EMI/EMC testing.
Experience with thermal cores, optical assemblies, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461 or defence qualification programmes will be an advantage.
The person we are looking for
Technical knowledge is important, but ownership is equally important for this role.
We are looking for someone who can take a product or engineering problem, understand it properly, coordinate the required people and resources, drive it to closure and document the outcome.
This role will suit an engineer who enjoys working across disciplines rather than remaining within a narrowly defined technical function.
The candidate should also be willing to learn areas they may not already know.
Compensation and terms
- Fixed compensation typically in the range of ₹12–18 lakh per annum, depending on experience and suitability.
- Higher compensation may be considered for an exceptional candidate with robust directly relevant product ownership experience.
- Performance linked variable component.
- Long term incentive opportunities may be considered for high performing employees, subject to company policy.
This is a full time, on-site position. Remote or hybrid work is not available for this role.
Applicants must be Indian nationals.
