About Sunstripe is seeking a Senior Engineer – Gas Turbine Performance & Controls to support power generation engineering for AI/hyperscale data center and energy storage projects across the U.S.

The role will focus on gas turbine performance, controls, and energetic response, including integration with BESS and large, rapidly changing data center loads. The engineer will work closely with power systems and controls teams to evaluate grid-connected, islanded, and microgrid power architectures and ensure reliable system performance. Responsibilities

Evaluate gas turbine performance, operating limits, ramp rates, startup, load acceptance/rejection, and transient response.

Develop GT power profiles and operating assumptions for AI/hyperscale data center + BESS applications.

Evaluate governor, frequency response, droop/isochronous control, excitation/AVR, and reactive power capability.

Support dynamic studies for grid-connected, islanded, microgrid, black-start, and generator-trip scenarios.

Define operating and control coordination between gas turbines, BESS, and rapidly changing data center loads.

Review OEM technical data and dynamic models and coordinate with power systems, controls,



and HIL teams.

Required

Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Power, or related Engineering.

8+ years of gas turbine / power-generation engineering experience.

Strong experience in gas turbine performance and controls, including ramping, load transients, startup, governor response, and operating limitations.

Experience with simple-cycle and/or combined-cycle gas turbine plants.

Ability to interpret OEM performance data, operating curves, control philosophies, and generator characteristics.

Additional Preferred

Qualifications

Experience with BESS, microgrids, islanded power systems, or large data center/industrial loads.

Knowledge of generator excitation/AVR, frequency control, black start, and synchronization.

Experience supporting dynamic models/studies using PSCAD, PSS®E, PowerFactory, or similar tools.

Experience with major gas turbine OEM platforms and working directly with OEMs, IPPs, utilities, or EPCs.

Experience integrating gas generation + BESS + large dynamic loads is highly preferred.
