Senior Accountant

About Providence College of Engineering

We are looking for a Senior Accountant to manage the day-to-day financial operations of the college. This role goes beyond numbers. It calls for someone who understands the rhythm of an academic institution, from the seasonality of student fee cycles to the sensitivity of staff payroll and statutory compliance. If you have a sharp eye for detail, strong ethical grounding, and the adaptability to work within an education-focused environment, this role is for you.

Key ResponsibilitiesStudent Fee Management & Reconciliation

- Manage end-to-end student fee collection, receipting, and reconciliation across programs
- Maintain accurate records of fee dues, concessions, scholarships (including the George Mathew Scholarship Fund), and refunds
- Reconcile fee receipts with bank statements and ensure timely follow-up on outstanding dues
- Coordinate with the admissions and academic teams on fee-related queries

Payroll & Staff Benefits Administration

- Process monthly payroll for teaching, non-teaching, and contract staff accurately and on time
- Administer staff benefits including leave encashment, incentives, and reimbursements
- Handle statutory deductions and ensure timely compliance with PF, ESI, and TDS obligations
- Maintain confidentiality of payroll data and resolve staff queries with empathy

General Ledger & Financial Reporting

- Maintain the general ledger with accuracy and timeliness
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for management review
- Support budget preparation, variance analysis, and audit processes (internal and statutory)




- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and institutional policies

Other Accounting Matters

- Manage cash flow, bank reconciliations, and vendor payments
- Coordinate with external auditors, banks, and government departments as required
- Contribute to process improvements and bring efficiency to financial operations
- Adapt quickly to the unique demands of an academic environment, including seasonal workloads tied to admissions and examinations

Required Qualifications & SkillsEducation & Experience

- MCom from a recognized university
- 5 to 10 years of hands-on experience in accounting, preferably with exposure to the education or service sector
- Strong working knowledge of accounting software (Tally, Zoho Books or equivalent)
- Familiarity with government portals including PF, ESI, and TDS
- Sound understanding of Indian accounting standards, taxation, and statutory compliance
