Role: Product Design Intern

Location: Bangalore/IISc, Yelahaka

Role Overview

We are looking for a Product Design Intern to support the design and development of physical products, equipment enclosures, mounting structures, fixtures, and engineering assemblies. The intern will work closely with hardware, mechanical, electronics, and project teams to convert functional requirements into practical, manufacturable, and visually refined product designs.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop product concepts, mechanical layouts, and industrial design solutions
- Create 2D drawings and 3D CAD models for products, assemblies, enclosures, brackets, mounts, and supporting structures
- Design camera enclosures, lighting housings, sensor mounts, equipment cabinets, and field-installation assemblies
- Translate functional and technical requirements into practical product designs
- Prepare concept sketches, CAD models, exploded views, assembly drawings, and manufacturing drawings
- Support prototype development, fabrication, assembly, and product testing
- Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback from engineering and field teams
- Select suitable materials, manufacturing processes, fasteners, seals, and mechanical components
- Design products considering strength, manufacturability, maintainability, ergonomics, environmental protection, and ease of installation
- Coordinate with fabrication vendors for prototype and production development
- Evaluate existing designs and recommend improvements for cost, weight, reliability, installation, and serviceability
- Maintain CAD files, drawings, revision history, and product design documentation
- Support development of BOMs, technical specifications, and manufacturing documentation
- Assist in conducting field measurements and converting site requirements into product designs

Required Skills




- Positive understanding of mechanical and product design fundamentals
- Proficiency in at least one CAD tool such as SolidWorks
- Ability to create 3D models, assemblies, engineering drawings, and exploded views
- Basic understanding of GD&T;, tolerances, fits, and manufacturing drawings
- Knowledge of common manufacturing processes such as:
- Sheet-metal fabrication
- CNC machining
- Welding
- Laser cutting
- 3D printing
- Injection moulding
- Basic understanding of material selection including metals, plastics, and composites
- Ability to understand engineering requirements and convert them into manufacturable designs
- Strong problem-solving and visualization skills

Preferred Skills

- Knowledge of sheet-metal design and enclosure design
- Exposure to IP-rated / weather-resistant enclosure design
- Basic understanding of thermal management and electronics enclosure design
- Experience with 3D printing and rapid prototyping
- Familiarity with FEA or basic structural analysis
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA)
- Experience preparing rendered product visuals and concept presentations
- Exposure to industrial, railway, automotive, robotics, automation, or machine-vision products

Educational Qualification

Students or recent graduates pursuing B.E./B.Tech/M.E./M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Industrial Design, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.

Pay: ₹8,000.00 - ₹10,000.00 per month
