Role Description The Patent Drafting & Prosecution Intern will support the firm’s IP practice by assisting in the preparation, review, and refinement of patent specifications, claims, and drawings for diverse technologies. Day-to-day tasks include conducting prior art and novelty searches, analyzing technical disclosures, preparing draft patent applications, and supporting responses to office actions under guidance from senior professionals.

The intern will collaborate with patent attorneys and technical experts to organize case files, maintain documentation, and help manage patent portfolios for domestic and international clients. This is an internship role,



based on-site at Y&S; Legal’s office in Delhi, India, offering hands-on exposure to global patent practice and structured mentorship.

Qualifications

- Strong technical background in fields such as Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, Biotechnology, Pharmaceuticals, Medical Devices, or related disciplines.
- Ability to understand complex inventions and translate technical concepts into clear, accurate written descriptions suitable for patent specifications and claims.
- Competence in legal and technical research, including prior art searches, patent database searches, and analysis of existing patents and publications.
- Excellent written communication skills in English, with attention to detail, grammar, and structured drafting for legal documents.
- Analytical and critical-thinking skills to evaluate invention novelty, patentability, and potential scope of protection.
- Proficiency with standard productivity tools (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, PDF tools) and comfort working with online IP databases.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment, take feedback constructively, and manage multiple tasks with adherence to deadlines.
- Current enrollment in or recent completion of a technical degree (e.g., B.Tech, M.Tech, B.Sc, M.Sc, or equivalent) or a law program with a focus on intellectual property is preferred.
