Clinical Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain the operation theatre before, during, and after surgical procedures.
- Ensure patient safety by following hospital protocols and surgical safety checklists.
- Assist surgeons, anesthetists, and other healthcare professionals during surgeries.
- Monitor aseptic techniques and infection prevention measures.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate daily OT schedules with surgeons and relevant departments.
- Supervise and guide OT nurses, technicians, and support staff.
- Maintain duty rosters and manage staff allocation.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, accreditation standards, and statutory regulations.
Equipment and Inventory Management
- Ensure OT equipment is functional and properly maintained.
- Monitor stock levels of surgical instruments, consumables, and medications.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and calibration of OT equipment.
- Report equipment malfunctions and arrange timely repairs.
Quality and Safety
- Implement and monitor infection control policies.
- Conduct regular audits of OT practices and documentation.
- Ensure biomedical waste is segregated and disposed of according to regulations.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and incident reporting.
Documentation
- Maintain accurate OT records, surgical registers, and patient documentation.
- Ensure proper documentation of instrument counts and surgical procedures.
- Prepare reports related to OT activities, inventory, and staff performance.
Staff Development
- Train, mentor, and evaluate OT nursing staff.
- Conduct orientation programs for current employees.
- Organize continuing education and competency assessments.
Emergency Preparedness
- Ensure readiness of emergency equipment and medications.
- Coordinate emergency surgeries efficiently.
- Participate in disaster management and emergency response planning.
Qualifications
- B.Sc. Nursing / GNM (as per hospital policy)
- Valid Nursing Council Registration
- OT specialization or certification preferred
- 5–8 years of OT nursing experience, with supervisory experience preferred
