This role is responsible for transforming customer engineering drawings into complete manufacturing process plans and accurate, competitive quotations for build-to-print aerospace components and assemblies.
The successful candidate will develop manufacturing routings, estimate machining cycle times, determine material and tooling requirements, coordinate outside processing, and prepare detailed cost estimates while ensuring compliance with AS9100 Rev. D quality requirements.
Key ResponsibilitiesManufacturing Process Planning
Analyze 2D engineering drawings and customer specifications.
Develop complete manufacturing process plans, including operation sequence, setups, datum strategy, machining methods, and inspection requirements.
Define machining stock allowances for roughing, finishing, grinding, plating, heat treatment, and stress relief.
Plan machining processes for bar stock, castings, forgings, and fabricated components.
Optimize process flow to achieve dimensional accuracy and manufacturing efficiency.
GD&T; Interpretation
Interpret complex GD&T; requirements in accordance with ASME Y14.5.
Apply datum reference frames, feature control frames, positional tolerances, profile tolerances, runout, MMC, LMC, and RFS concepts.
Convert GD&T; requirements into practical machining and inspection strategies.
Identify critical characteristics and tolerance stack-up risks.
Quotation & Cost Estimation
Prepare detailed and competitive quotations for precision-machined components and assemblies.
Estimate machining cycle times using parts-per-hour methodology.
Calculate material, tooling, programming, inspection, assembly, and outside processing costs.
Develop detailed cost breakdowns supporting labor, material, subcontracting, and profit margins.
Coordinate supplier quotations for raw materials and subcontract services.
Outside Process Planning
Plan and coordinate special processes including:
Heat Treatment
Stress Relieving
Carburizing
Electroless Nickel Plating
EDM
Welding
Electron Beam Welding
Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI)
Nital Etching
