Position: Store Manager

Location: Pune, Maharashtra

Reporting To: Purchase / Operations Manager / Director

1. Job Purpose The Store Manager will be responsible for the overall management and control of the company’s stores, including receipt, inspection, identification, storage, preservation, inventory control and issue of raw materials, bought-out items, consumables, welding materials, engineering components and finished/sub-assembled items.

The role requires strong coordination with Purchase, Production, Quality, Engineering, Projects and Accounts to ensure that required materials are available at the right time, in the right quantity and with proper documentation.

2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Material Receiving & Inspection

- Receive incoming materials from suppliers and transporters.
- Verify material against Purchase Orders, Delivery Challans and Invoices.
- Check quantity, dimensions, specifications and physical condition.
- Coordinate with the Quality Department for material inspection and acceptance.
- Ensure proper documentation of received materials.
- Identify and segregate rejected, damaged or non-conforming materials.
- Maintain records of Material Receipt Notes (MRN/GRN).

B. Raw Material Management

Manage and control engineering raw materials including:

- SS304 / SS316 / SS316L plates, sheets and coils.
- Carbon steel plates and structural materials.
- Pipes, tubes, fittings and flanges.
- Round bars, shafts and other machining materials.
- Welding filler wires, electrodes and gases.
- Gaskets, fasteners and hardware.
- Electrical and mechanical bought-out items.
- Agitator components, seals, bearings and gearboxes.
- Consumables used for fabrication and machining.

Maintain proper heat number / batch number / material identification and traceability wherever required.

C. Inventory Control

- Maintain accurate stock levels for all materials.
- Monitor minimum and maximum stock levels.
- Identify slow-moving, excess and obsolete inventory.
- Prepare material shortage reports.
- Coordinate with Purchase for timely replenishment.
- Conduct periodic physical stock verification.
- Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies.
- Maintain proper inventory records in ERP/Excel/software.

D. Material Issue to Production

- Issue materials against approved Material Requisition / Production requirements.
- Ensure correct material grade, size and quantity are issued.
- Maintain proper issue records.
- Ensure traceability of critical materials issued to each project/equipment.
- Coordinate with Production Planning to ensure uninterrupted manufacturing.

E. Welding Consumables Control

- Maintain stock of welding wires, electrodes and other welding consumables.
- Ensure proper storage and identification of welding consumables.
- Monitor batch/lot numbers wherever applicable.
- Maintain records of issue and consumption.




- Ensure compliance with applicable welding procedure and quality requirements.

F. Project & Job-Wise Material Control

- Maintain project/job-wise material allocation and consumption records.
- Track materials against individual equipment such as:
- Reactors
- Storage Tanks
- Pressure Vessels
- Agitators
- Pasteurizers
- Dryers
- Heat Exchangers
- Skids and Process Equipment
- Provide material availability status to Production and Project teams.
- Assist in reconciliation of actual material consumption against BOM.

G. Store Organization

- Maintain a clean, organized and systematic store.
- Ensure proper location identification and material tagging.
- Implement FIFO/FEFO wherever applicable.
- Separate raw material, consumables, bought-out items, rejected materials and finished goods.
- Ensure proper storage and preservation of sensitive materials.

H. Documentation & Records

Maintain and update

- Material Receipt Notes / GRNs
- Material Issue Slips
- Stock Registers
- Material Requisition Records
- Purchase Order records
- Delivery Challans
- Inspection/Acceptance records
- Material Test Certificates (MTCs)
- Heat Number Traceability Records
- Project-wise Material Records
- Stock Verification Reports
- Return-to-store records
- Rejection / Non-Conformance records

I. Coordination

Coordinate closely with

Purchase Team

- Material procurement status
- Expected deliveries
- Shortages and urgent requirements

Production Team

- Daily material requirements
- Material issue and consumption
- Job-wise requirements

Quality Team

- Incoming material inspection
- MTC verification
- Heat number traceability
- Rejected materials

Engineering / Projects

- BOM requirements
- Project material status
- Additional material requirements

Accounts

- GRN documentation
- Invoice matching
- Material receipt discrepancies

3. Stock Control & Reporting The Store Manager shall prepare regular reports such as:

- Daily material receipt report
- Daily material issue report
- Current stock report
- Critical shortage report
- Minimum stock report
- Excess/slow-moving inventory report
- Monthly stock statement
- Project-wise material consumption
- Physical stock reconciliation
- Material rejection/return report

4. Team Management

- Supervise Store Assistants, Store Keepers, Helpers and loading/unloading personnel.
- Allocate daily responsibilities.
- Ensure discipline and proper material handling.
- Train staff on store procedures and documentation.
- Ensure safe handling of heavy plates, pipes, machinery components and other materials.

Safety Responsibilities

- Ensure safe material storage and handling.
- Maintain clear access paths and proper stacking.
- Ensure safe handling of heavy plates, pipes and structural materials.
- Follow applicable PPE and workplace safety requirements.
- Ensure proper storage of welding consumables and gas cylinders.
- Report unsafe conditions immediately to management.

6. Required Skills & Competencies

- Strong knowledge of engineering/manufacturing stores.
- Knowledge of SS, CS, Duplex and other engineering materials.
- Understanding of plates, pipes, fittings, flanges, fasteners and fabrication consumables.
- Knowledge of material identification and heat number traceability.
- Valuable inventory management skills.
- Strong documentation and record-keeping ability.
- Good Excel/ERP skills.
- Ability to read basic engineering drawings and BOMs.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and urgent material requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

7. Educational Qualification

Preferred:

- Diploma / ITI / Graduate in Mechanical Engineering, Production, Materials Management or related field.

Candidates with strong practical experience in engineering/manufacturing stores may also be considered.

8. Experience

Preferred: 3–8 years of experience in stores/inventory management in:

- Engineering manufacturing
- Pressure vessel manufacturing
- Process equipment manufacturing
- SS fabrication
- Pharma equipment manufacturing
- Heavy fabrication
- Chemical/process equipment industry

Experience in handling SS304/SS316L, CS, Duplex, pipes, fittings, welding consumables and engineering bought-outs will be preferred.

9. Performance Indicators / KPIs The Store Manager will be evaluated on:

- Inventory accuracy
- Material availability for production
- Reduction in material shortages
- Reduction in excess/obsolete inventory
- Accuracy of GRN and issue documentation
- Material traceability
- Stock reconciliation accuracy
- Timely reporting
- Proper store organization
- Reduction in material loss/damage
- Project-wise material control
- Compliance with company procedures

10. Preferred Candidate Profile The ideal candidate should be a hands-on Store Manager who understands engineering materials and fabrication processes rather than only maintaining administrative inventory records.

The candidate should be capable of independently managing the complete stores operation of PSTM Engineering, coordinating with Purchase and Production, controlling material movement and maintaining accurate project-wise and heat-number-wise material traceability.
