Most agencies fail their clients quietly. Not by missing sprints, but by building exactly what was asked for while the underlying problem goes untouched. Axelerant exists to be the partner that doesn't do that: the one that understands a client's business well enough to tell them when the request is a symptom, and is credible enough on their platform to be believed.
The Client Engagement
Manager is where that promise either holds or breaks. You're the person closest to both the client's business and our delivery reality, and the only one positioned to keep them honest with each other. The role carries that responsibility both commercially and substantively.
You own the client relationship and the health of an assigned portfolio across Axelerant's three engagement models — Managed Projects, Staff Augmentation, and CD&M; (Continuous Delivery & Maintenance) — reframing what clients ask for into what they actually need, advising credibly on what their platform can and cannot do, protecting margin while growing the account, and turning delivery outcomes into narratives the rest of the business can use. Accountable for retention, engagement margin, and qualified growth within the portfolio.
What you'll do Business & product intelligence
Reframe what clients ask for into what they actually need — connecting observed business pain points to defined problems, user needs, and expected outcomes before implementation begins. Validate commercially meaningful opportunities through user, task, or process research rather than accepting the obvious answer. Where investment decisions are in play, build the business case and quantify the ROI. Platform & transformation advisory
Hold credible architecture and feasibility conversations without a developer in the room, and never mislead a client about what their platform can do. Identify digital maturity gaps and sequence delivery initiatives against the client's transformation path,
not just their backlog. Track platform and market shifts and advise how they should shape roadmap direction. Stakeholder influence
Keep the delivery team aligned with clear requirements, clarifications, and risks, and keep the client aligned through structured options rather than status narration. Present risks and implications at the altitude the decision sits — analyst, manager, director, or executive. Lead alignment conversations with scenarios and business cases when the decision is strategic. Delivery & commercial ownership
Own both the outcome and the margin: maintain a ready backlog with clear acceptance criteria, run structured UAT, and ensure delivery holds to the agreed engagement model. Raise out-of-scope changes and budget risk early, and manage change requests through commercially aware decisions that protect margin while creating room to expand. Orchestrate multi-team, multi-workstream delivery and lead the change management that keeps it viable. AI fluency
Automate the routine layer of delivery — summaries, status updates, risk logs, dependency tracking — so attention goes to judgement work. Integrate AI agents into engagement workflows for forecasting, risk detection, scenario modelling, and reporting to improve predictability and decision quality. At portfolio scale, govern how those agentified workflows operate and where they're trusted. Advocacy
Maintain a running account of the meaningful moments, decisions, and outcomes inside each engagement,
and share updates rich enough that progress is visible without being asked for. Distribute account context to the sales, marketing, and delivery people who need it rather than holding it in your head. Convert real outcomes into client-approved case studies, quotes, and reference calls.
What we're looking for 6+ years in client-facing delivery, with at least 3 years as the primary owner of a client relationship — meaning you, not a salesperson or a delivery head above you, were the person the client called about scope, budget, and escalations. Direct accountability for engagement margin on $500K+ of annual portfolio value. You should be able to describe a specific commercial decision you made — a change request you priced, a scope line you held, a model you switched — and what it did to margin.
Hands-on ownership of Agile delivery across at least two of Fixed Price, Time & Materials, Staff Augmentation, and CD&M; (Continuous Delivery & Maintenance) — including backlog and acceptance criteria, UAT, release readiness, and how scope control differs by model. Enough technical depth in a CMS or DXP ecosystem to advise a client without a developer present — Drupal strongly preferred, or comparable (Adobe, Sitecore, Contentful, WordPress VIP). You must be able to tell a client "no, and here's why, and here's the alternative" and be right.
A documented expansion you originated. Not an upsell you were handed — an prospect you saw because you understood the client's business, qualified, and closed or handed to close. Written communication that leads with decisions.
Candidates will be asked to produce a short client-facing options memo as part of the process; status-narration writing will not pass. Working overlap with US or EU business hours, and comfort operating as the conscious and value-driven Axelerant voice in a room of client directors.
