Storming Universe is looking for an Avionics Systems Engineer to support the development, integration, testing and flight-readiness of avionics systems for our fixed-wing unmanned aircraft.
The engineer will work across the complete aircraft avionics architecture, including flight controllers, Servo Control Units (SCU), Engine Control Units (ECU), sensors, actuators, communication buses, telemetry, electrical interfaces and autopilot integration.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and integrate CAN, CAN FD and DroneCAN/UAVCAN communication between aircraft systems.
- Integrate the flight controller, SCU, ECU, sensors, actuators and other avionics equipment.
- Work with PX4 or ArduPilot, including source-code modification, integration and debugging where required.
- Develop and debug embedded C/C++ software.
- Integrate IMU, GNSS, air-data sensors, servos, telemetry systems and companion computers.
- Support MAVLink and ground-control station integration.
- Define electrical and communication interfaces between aircraft subsystems.
- Support aircraft wiring, harnesses, grounding, shielding and avionics installation.
- Perform bench testing, Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing.
- Analyse system logs and diagnose avionics, electrical, software and communication faults.
- Support aircraft ground testing, engine testing,
taxi testing and flight-test activities.
- Work closely with flight-controls, mechanical, structural and flight-test engineers.
Candidate Requirements Candidates should have a degree in Avionics, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Embedded Systems, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics or a related field, with practical experience in embedded systems and aircraft or UAV integration.
Robust knowledge of the following is highly desirable:
- C/C++
- CAN communication
- PX4 or ArduPilot
- Embedded systems and microcontrollers
- Aircraft/UAV avionics integration
Experience with MAVLink, STM32, Linux, Git, oscilloscopes, logic analysers and CAN analysers will be considered an advantage. Experience with fixed-wing UAVs, DroneCAN/UAVCAN, GNSS/INS, telemetry systems, aircraft wiring, EMI/EMC and Hardware-in-the-Loop testing is preferred.
Candidates with PX4 or ArduPilot experience should ideally be comfortable with system integration, debugging or source-code development, rather than only flight-controller configuration and parameter tuning.
We are looking for a hands-on engineer who is comfortable working across software, electronics and aircraft systems and can take ownership of avionics integration from development through ground and flight testing.
Work Location: In person
