# Audio Designer / Sound Designer (Game Development) – Remote Unpaid Volunteer / Internship WorkshopEdge is an early-stage software startup focused on building cutting-edge digital products and game development projects. Our team collaborates remotely to create engaging software solutions and interactive experiences while fostering a culture of creativity, learning, and innovation. We provide aspiring professionals with opportunities to gain practical, real-world experience, contribute to meaningful projects, and build industry-ready portfolios in a collaborative startup environment.
You will work on the audio direction and implementation for our upcoming Egyptian-inspired action game, helping create immersive sound effects, environmental audio, combat sounds, puzzle interactions, creature sounds, UI audio, and other audio experiences that support gameplay and atmosphere. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys creating sounds and thinking about how audio can make gameplay feel more impactful, mysterious, tense, immersive, and responsive. ### Key Responsibilities
Design and create sound effects for gameplay, environments, characters, creatures, objects, and interactions.
Create sound effects for combat actions, including attacks, impacts, weapon movements, hits, blocks, dodges, and special attacks.
Design unique audio identities for different enemies, creatures, bosses, and characters.
Create creature sounds such as vocalizations, movement sounds, attacks, breathing, reactions, and death sounds.
Design audio for environmental interactions, including doors, levers, switches, mechanisms, traps, chains, stones, gates, statues, and other interactive objects.
Create audio for environmental puzzles, including puzzle activation, progression, failure, completion, and large-scale environmental changes.
Design sounds for major environmental events such as collapsing structures, moving statues, opening ancient gates, activating mechanisms, breaking objects, and changing environments.
Create ambient soundscapes for forests, ancient ruins, temples, caves, cities, underground areas, and other game environments.
Design atmospheric audio that supports exploration, mystery, tension, danger, and discovery.
Create foley and movement sounds for player characters, enemies, creatures, and environmental objects.
Design footsteps and movement audio for different surfaces such as stone, dirt, sand, grass, wood, metal, and water.
Create UI and menu sounds including button interactions, notifications, confirmations, selections, inventory interactions, and other interface feedback.
Design audio feedback that clearly communicates gameplay events to the player.
Create sounds for collectibles, rewards, checkpoints, progression events, and important discoveries.
Work on audio cues that help players understand gameplay situations without relying entirely on visual information.
Create audio variations and randomized sound sets to prevent repetitive sounds from becoming noticeable during gameplay.
Organize and maintain audio assets with clear naming, categorization, and documentation.
Implement and integrate audio into Unreal Engine using the available audio tools and systems.
Configure sound effects, attenuation, looping, spatial audio, volume, pitch, and other relevant audio properties.
Work with gameplay programmers and designers to connect sounds to gameplay events and interactions.
Collaborate with level designers to place and implement environmental and location-based audio.
Collaborate with environment artists, 3D artists, animators, VFX artists, gameplay programmers, and game designers.
Playtest audio in-game and adjust sounds based on gameplay context, timing, distance, intensity, and player feedback.
Help establish a consistent audio style and sound language for the game's Egyptian-inspired world.
Research and experiment with different sound-design techniques to create distinctive audio for the game.
Contribute ideas for how audio can improve immersion, gameplay clarity, atmosphere, and emotional impact. ### Qualifications
