Midknight Studio is a 25-person digital studio building games, AR/VR learning experiences, AI-driven video content, and custom software. Our work reaches classrooms and screens across India — including large-scale AR curriculum products delivered in four languages. We're a small team that ships real products, which means your art doesn't sit in a folder; it goes into something people actually use.
Crafted after midnight. Built for the world.
The role
We're looking for a junior 2D & 3D Artist who's comfortable moving between both pipelines. You'll work on characters, environments, props, and UI — sometimes illustrating them, sometimes modelling and texturing them, and often taking an asset all the way into Unity yourself.
This is an early-career role, so we care more about fundamentals, range, and how rapid you learn than about years on a resume. You'll sit alongside senior artists and developers and get real production work from week one.
What you'll do
- Create 2D assets: character designs, environment art, props, icons, UI elements, and marketing visuals
- Model, UV, texture, and light 3D assets optimised for mobile, tablet, and Android smart board hardware
- Assist with rigging and animation (2D skeletal and/or basic 3D character and object animation)
- Set up art inside Unity: materials, prefabs, particles, and scene dressing
- Work with game designers and developers to turn design documents into a consistent visual style
- Keep asset naming, file structure, and style consistent across large module-based projects
- Optimise poly counts and textures so builds run smoothly on low- and mid-tier devices
- Iterate quickly on feedback from internal reviews and client rounds
What we're looking for
- 6 months to 1.5 years of experience in game art — internships, freelance work, or a strong body of personal/student projects all count
- Working knowledge of both 2D and 3D — you don't need to be equally strong at both, but you should be genuinely capable in each
- Photoshop / Illustrator (or Procreate, Krita, Affinity) for 2D
- Blender, Maya, or 3ds Max for modelling; Substance Painter or equivalent for texturing is a plus
- Some hands-on time inside Unity, even from personal projects
- Strong fundamentals: form, colour, composition, lighting, and silhouette
- Willingness to take direction, revise, and learn production pipelines properly
- A portfolio or showreel is mandatory — applications without one won't be reviewed
Bonus points
- Any exposure to AR/VR projects or Unity AR Foundation
- Shader Graph, VFX Graph, or particle work
- Spine, DragonBones, or Unity's 2D animation tools
- Art for educational or children's products
- Familiarity with Unreal Engine
- Basic motion graphics (After Effects) for trailers and promos
What we offer
- ₹20,000 per month to start, with a review as you take on more ownership
- Mentorship from senior artists and direct exposure to full production pipelines
- Variety — games, AR learning modules, and video content in the same week
- A flat, small-team structure where your work is seen by the people who make decisions
- Paid time off and a collaborative in-studio environment in Baner, Pune
- A clear path to a mid-level artist role as you grow with the studio
How to apply
Apply through Indeed with your resume and a link to your portfolio, ArtStation, or showreel. In your application, tell us briefly which side — 2D or 3D — you consider your stronger one, and why.
