A nursing officer (traditionally known as a staff nurse) provides direct clinical care, manages patient wards, administers treatments, and collaborates with doctors to maintain safety, hygiene, and clinical records across hospital shifts. Patient Care and Treatment

- Patient Assessment: Check vital signs like pulse, blood pressure, and temperature, and record health history.
- Medication Administration: Give oral drugs, intravenous fluids, and injections safely as ordered by doctors.
- Clinical Procedures: Assist with wound dressings, catheterization, oxygen therapy, and lab specimen collection.
- Patient Support: Help patients with daily hygiene, feeding, comfort, and safety needs.

Ward and Unit Management

- Shift Handovers: Give and receive clear verbal or written reports during shift changes.
- Hygiene and Safety: Keep the ward, beds, and equipment clean and sterile according to hospital rules.
- Inventory Control: Manage medical supplies, linens,



and drug stocks within the unit.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate medical charts and document all care given.

Communication and Education

- Doctor Collaboration: Join medical rounds and report sudden health changes to physicians.
- Patient Guidance: Educate patients and families on disease management, recovery, and home care.
- Staff Guidance: Train and orient junior nurses, nursing students, and support staff.
