THE ROLE
Pricing and inventory are 2 of our more strategic levers as optimal pricing ensures always-on CX and JiT (just in time) purchasing ensures cash flows that help pass through more savings to our customers.
This role owns both. You will set and defend the price architecture across every category, and you will decide what we buy, how much, and when. You will sit between merchandising, supply chain, marketing and finance — and you will be the person who can answer, with evidence, why a product costs what it costs and why we are holding the stock we are holding.
It is a hands-on role with real commercial ownership. You will not be maintaining someone else's model; you will be building the one the business runs on.
WHAT YOU'LL OWNPricing strategy & architecture
- Landed cost modelling — build and maintain full landed cost by SKU: ex-factory, freight, duty, handling, warehousing, packaging, payment fees and returns provision.
- Price setting — set and review RRP across categories, with clear price ladders and entry, core and premium tiers that make sense to a customer browsing a category page.
- Competitive benchmarking — track UK competitor pricing systematically and translate it into positioning decisions rather than reactive matching.
- Promotional governance — own discount depth, cadence and mechanic. Model the margin impact of every promotion before it runs and report the actual outcome after.
- Markdown & exit pricing — run a disciplined markdown ladder for ageing and end-of-life stock that clears inventory without training customers to wait for a sale.
Margin management
- Own contribution margin at SKU and category level, and be the person who flags erosion before it shows up in the P&L.;
- Partner with sourcing on cost negotiations,
MOQ trade-offs and cost-down opportunities across the manufacturing network.
- Model the margin implications of freight, duty and FX movement, including the UK–India FTA duty position, and recommend price action where needed.
- Run pricing tests and read the results honestly — including the ones that do not work.
Demand forecasting & buying
- Build SKU-level demand forecasts using sales history, seasonality, marketing calendar and product lifecycle stage.
- Run the open-to-buy process: translate the forecast into a buy plan by category, respecting cash, lead times and factory MOQs.
- Set and maintain reorder points, safety stock and coverage targets by category, factoring in variable lead times from India.
- Manage the recent-product launch buy — the hardest forecast we make, with no history to lean on.
Inventory health
- Track sell-through, stock cover, ageing and dead stock, and drive the actions that fix them.
- Monitor in-stock availability on best-sellers and escalate risk early enough for it to be actionable.
- Own inventory accuracy across the UK warehouse, in-transit stock and production pipeline, working with the OMS/WMS teams.
- Balance service level against working capital, and be able to defend where you have drawn that line.
Systems & reporting
- Build the pricing and inventory reporting layer the business actually uses — not a report nobody opens.
- Work across Shopify,
the order management system and warehouse systems to keep pricing and stock data clean and trustworthy.
- Automate what should be automated. If you are rebuilding the same file every Monday, fix it.
- Present clearly to the leadership team, and to investors when asked.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOREssential
- 3–5 years in pricing, merchandise planning, demand planning, inventory management or commercial finance — ideally at a D2C, e-commerce, retail or consumer brand.
- Advanced Excel / Google Sheets. You should be genuinely fluent — modelling, scenario analysis, large datasets — not just comfortable.
- Commercial numeracy. You understand gross margin, contribution margin, sell-through, stock turn and working capital, and can explain them to someone who does not.
- Demonstrated ownership. A specific example of a pricing or inventory decision you made that moved a number, and how you knew it worked.
- Strong written English. You will be writing to UK colleagues and partners daily; clarity matters more than polish.
- Comfort with ambiguity. We are scaling. Processes will be half-built or missing. You will be expected to build them.
- Tier 1 degree in Bachelors or Masters (preferred)
Nice to have
- SQL, or experience with a BI tool (Looker, Metabase, Power BI).
- Hands-on Shopify, ERP or OMS experience.
- Exposure to import/export, landed cost or international freight.
- Experience in home, furniture, textiles or a comparable considered-purchase category.
- Familiarity with statistical forecasting methods and forecast accuracy measurement.
