HIRING – CNC TURNING PROGRAMMER / DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER

Build Precision Defence Components – Independently.

Astr Defence is looking for an experienced CNC Turning qualified who can independently handle the complete machining process for precision development parts.

We are looking for someone who is not just a machine operator, but a hands-on CNC Turning expert capable of taking a component from drawing → tooling → programming → machining → inspection → final output with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibility

The selected person should be able to independently:

- Understand engineering drawings, dimensions & tolerances
- Plan the complete CNC turning machining process
- Select appropriate cutting tools, inserts, holders and tooling strategy
- Decide cutting parameters, speeds & feeds
- Prepare and modify CNC programs
- Set up jobs and prove-out programs
- Handle first-off / development components
- Troubleshoot machining, tool wear, dimensional & surface-finish issues
- Optimize cycle time and machining parameters
- Coordinate with Design & QA for development parts
- Inspect the finished component using appropriate measuring instruments
- Deliver the final component as per drawing requirements without continuous supervision

What We Are Looking For

Experience: 3–5+ years in CNC Turning / Precision Machining

Essential:

- Strong hands-on experience in CNC Turning
- Good knowledge of CNC programming
- Strong understanding of tooling & insert selection
- Ability to independently develop machining processes




- Experience in machining precision components / development parts
- Good understanding of tolerances, surface finish and dimensional control
- Ability to read engineering drawings
- Knowledge of offsets, tool setting and program corrections
- Practical problem-solving ability

Preferred:

- Fanuc CNC control experience
- Experience with precision engineering / defence / aerospace / automotive components
- Knowledge of CAM programming
- Experience working with EN-series steels, stainless steels and other engineering materials
- Ability to work on prototype and small-batch development components

The Person We Want

We are specifically looking for a self-driven, independent CNC professional.

You should be comfortable receiving a drawing and taking ownership of the complete machining activity:

Drawing → Process Planning → Tool Selection → Programming → Setup → Trial → Correction → Inspection → Final Component

If you need someone standing beside you for every tool selection, program correction or setup decision, this role may not be suitable.

If you can independently solve machining problems and consistently deliver precision components, we want to meet you.
