Job Summary
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for collecting, processing, analyzing, and reporting laboratory specimens accurately and efficiently. The role involves performing routine and emergency laboratory tests, maintaining laboratory equipment and records, following quality-control procedures, and ensuring compliance with infection-control and laboratory safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect blood, urine, stool, swab, and other clinical specimens as required.
- Verify patient identification, sample labeling, and test requisitions before processing.
- Perform routine laboratory investigations according to established procedures.
- Handle hematology, biochemistry, clinical pathology, microbiology, and other laboratory samples as assigned.
- Operate and maintain laboratory analyzers, microscopes, centrifuges, and other equipment.
- Perform calibration, quality-control checks, and basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
- Prepare reagents, stains, controls, and other laboratory materials as required.
- Process emergency and routine samples within the required turnaround time.
- Ensure proper storage, handling, transportation, and disposal of specimens.
- Maintain accurate laboratory registers,
worksheets, reports, and electronic records.
- Communicate critical or abnormal results promptly to the concerned doctor/pathologist as per hospital protocol.
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), laboratory safety guidelines, and infection-control practices.
- Ensure proper biomedical waste segregation and disposal.
- Maintain adequate stock of reagents, consumables, collection materials, and other laboratory supplies.
- Monitor expiry dates and storage conditions of reagents and consumables.
- Participate in internal and external quality-control programs as required.
- Assist during inspections, audits, accreditation activities, and quality-improvement initiatives.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laboratory and work areas.
- Ensure patient confidentiality and protected handling of medical information.
- Report equipment malfunction, sample errors, quality issues, and incidents to the Lab In-Charge.
- Perform other laboratory duties assigned by the supervisor or management.
Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹17,000.00 per month
