Senior Special Educator – Job Description

At our Child Development Centre, the multidisciplinary team works with children and families to support developmental, educational, behavioural and functional outcomes.
Role Summary
We are looking for an experienced Senior Special Educator to lead and deliver high-quality educational intervention for children with developmental and learning needs. The role will involve assessment, individualized intervention planning, IEP development, parent counselling, team collaboration and mentoring junior special educators.
The position requires someone who can work independently, maintain high-quality documentation and contribute to the overall development of the centre's special education services.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct educational and functional assessments of children with developmental disabilities, learning difficulties and other special needs.
- Develop, implement and regularly review Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) based on each child's needs and goals.
- Plan and deliver individualized and group-based special education interventions.
- Adapt teaching strategies, curriculum and learning materials according to the child's abilities.
- Monitor children's progress and maintain detailed intervention and progress records.
- Conduct periodic assessments and prepare progress reports for parents and the multidisciplinary team.
- Provide parent counselling and guidance regarding home-based learning and intervention strategies.
- Collaborate with Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Physiotherapists and other professionals for integrated intervention.
- Participate in case discussions and multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Guide and mentor junior/trainee special educators.
- Support the development of Teaching-Learning Materials (TLMs) and individualized learning resources.
- Conduct parent orientation, awareness sessions and educational workshops.
- Support school inclusion and provide guidance on classroom adaptations where required.
- Coordinate with schools, parents and other stakeholders for continuity of intervention.
- Maintain accurate documentation, case files, assessment reports and progress records.
- Follow ethical standards, safeguarding requirements and applicable disability-sector regulations.
- Participate in centre-level programs, community outreach activities and awareness initiatives.
- Take responsibility for maintaining quality standards in special education services at the centre.
Eligibility & Qualifications
- Bachelor's/Master's degree in Special Education or equivalent RCI-recognized qualification.
- Valid RCI registration/CRR number is preferred/required, depending on the scope of the role.
- Specialization in Intellectual Disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Multiple Disabilities or related areas will be an advantage.
- Additional qualifications in Psychology, Early Intervention, Autism, Learning Disabilities or Inclusive Education will be an advantage.
RCI registration and recognized special-education qualifications are commonly specified for professional special educator roles, including current Bengaluru postings. (LinkedIn)
Experience
- 4–6+ years of relevant experience in special education.
- Experience working with children with:
- Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Intellectual Disability
- Learning Disabilities
- Developmental Delays
- Multiple Disabilities
- ADHD and related developmental needs
- Experience in a Child Development Centre, special school, therapy centre or inclusive education setting preferred.
- Previous experience mentoring junior educators or leading intervention programs will be an advantage.

- Strong spoken and written English.
- Kannada/Hindi knowledge will be an advantage.
