What Youll Be Doing (position summary):

As a hands-on Lead Data Engineer, you will deliver ETL, analytics, and data consumption capabilities aligned to a multi-year product roadmap. Working with Product, Architecture, Data, and business stakeholders, you will translate business goals into scalable solutions using enterprise standards and modern engineering practices.

You will lead a team of 10+ technology professionals, including Data Engineers, testers, and Data Analysts, to solve complex challenges in data modeling, transformation, and consumption. You will oversee the design, development, testing, and implementation of secure cloud-based data solutions across ETL, analytics, data quality, and data lineage.

You will drive engineering excellence through code quality, reviews, mentoring, sprint and release discipline, and best-practice development processes. You will manage resource allocation, remove SDLC bottlenecks, monitor quality and performance, improve delivery effectiveness, and support release planning and scheduling.

You will also lead project estimation intake, identify optimization opportunities, define and track KPIs, and drive Agile Scrum practices including capacity planning, story pointing, velocity tracking, and ceremonies. POCs may be required to validate technical direction.

Success in this role requires strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build alignment, facilitate solution discussions, and guide decisions through governance forums.

This role is one of the early hires for US Technology, Data & AI at CIBC India, helping establish cross-site alignment and a strong engineering culture supporting enterprise and TDAI priorities. Work arrangements, including on-site and remote work, will be discussed during the interview process.

How Youll Succeed (responsibilities):

- Strategic Delivery: Set goals for initiatives, align work to business strategy, translate priorities into roadmaps, define success metrics, manage dependencies, and use data-driven decision-making. Leverage GitHub Copilot in software development best practices.
- Technical Strategy and Architecture: Define technical direction and architecture for secure, scalable, resilient solutions. Improve standards through automation, testing, CI/CD, observability, modernization, cloud adoption, and reduction of technical debt.
- Risk and Compliance Oversight: Promote a risk-aware culture, align with departmental goals, embed privacy and security by design, and partner with Compliance and Audit on governance and reporting.
- Stakeholder Influence and Team Development: Build strong relationships across product, design, operations, and U.S.-based teams; influence senior stakeholders; communicate strategy and trade-offs clearly; mentor engineers; and raise team standards through reviews and knowledge sharing.

Experience: 10+ years of experience.

Who You Are (skills/qualifications):

Must Have Skills:

- 10+ years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, ideally in financial services or technology
- 5+ years as a Development Lead on Data Applications with strong data infrastructure and data architecture expertise
- Strong proficiency in PySpark, Scala, Databricks, ETL, Azure SQL, REST APIs
- Deep experience in data ingestion, pipeline development, optimization, reporting, and advanced analytics using Azure and Databricks
- Executive-level communication skills with the ability to engage c-suite and technical partners in development tollgates and governance forums
- Ability to document and present clear technical recommendations from framework to feature level
- Strong DevOps practices in environment management, security, pipeline management, code integrity, compliance, and release management
- Ability to set goals aligned to organizational strategy and solve complex problems with a strategic mindset
- Proven ability to build prototypes/POCs and scale them into production-ready solutions




- Experience shaping and executing solution roadmaps and acting as a trusted advisor to engineering and business teams
- Strong cross-functional leadership and stakeholder management across IT and business teams
- Ability to manage technical delivery in detail, identify risks early, and lead teams through ambiguity
- DevOps exposure, including CI/CD and modern engineering practices, preferred

Good to Have: Microsoft Certified: Azure Databricks Data Engineer or Databricks Certified Data Engineer certifications are an asset
