Role & responsibilities

Role Purpose:
Responsible for safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the VPSA Oxygen Plant and ensuring uninterrupted oxygen supply to the Blast Furnace. The role involves process monitoring, optimization, troubleshooting, shift coordination, and maintaining operational and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. VPSA Plant Operation
- Operate and monitor the VPSA Oxygen Plant as per SOP and operating parameters.
- Maintain required oxygen flow, pressure, purity, and availability for Blast Furnace operation.
- Monitor VPSA cycle parameters, vacuum levels, adsorption/desorption performance, and equipment health.
- Ensure stable and continuous oxygen supply to the Blast Furnace.

- Blast Furnace Coordination

- Coordinate with Blast Furnace Operation teams for oxygen demand and consumption requirements.
- Monitor oxygen enrichment parameters and ensure optimum oxygen supply to the furnace.
- Support BF operation during changes in production rate, oxygen demand, and operating conditions.
- Maintain coordination with BF, CPP/Power, Utilities, and Maintenance teams.

- Process Monitoring & Optimization

- Monitor process parameters through DCS/PLC and identify deviations.
- Analyze oxygen purity, flow, pressure, vacuum, and other critical parameters.
- Optimize VPSA operating parameters to improve oxygen recovery, plant efficiency, and energy consumption.
- Prepare and analyze daily production and operational reports.

- Troubleshooting & Breakdown Handling

- Identify abnormal operating conditions and take immediate corrective action.
- Coordinate with Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, and Maintenance teams for breakdown resolution.




- Participate in root cause analysis of recurring equipment/process issues.
- Ensure minimum downtime and quick restoration of plant operation.

- Shift Management

- Manage VPSA plant operations during assigned shifts.
- Allocate duties to operators and monitor shift activities.
- Ensure proper shift handover and communication of critical operational issues.
- Maintain operational logbooks, checklists, and shift reports.

- Safety & Compliance

- Ensure compliance with plant safety procedures, SOPs, and permit-to-work requirements.
- Follow safety standards related to oxygen, high pressure, vacuum systems, and rotating equipment.
- Conduct/participate in safety inspections, toolbox talks, and emergency drills.
- Ensure secure handling and operation of all VPSA equipment.

- Maintenance Coordination

- Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities with maintenance teams.
- Monitor equipment condition and report abnormalities at an early stage.
- Support planned shutdowns, start-ups, and commissioning activities.
- Ensure availability of critical spares and operational equipment.

- Continuous Improvement

- Identify opportunities for improvement in oxygen production, purity, recovery, and energy efficiency.
- Participate in process improvement and cost-reduction initiatives.
- Implement best operating practices to improve plant reliability and productivity.

- Documentation & Reporting

- Maintain daily production, consumption, equipment performance, and downtime records.
- Prepare MIS and shift-wise operational reports.
- Ensure proper documentation of SOPs, checklists, incidents, and process deviations.
