Role & responsibilities
Summary:
A Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is responsible for ensuring that materials and components sourced from external vendors meet the company's quality standards and regulatory requirements. This involves working with suppliers throughout the product lifecycle, from initial qualification to ongoing performance monitoring in low, medium & high voltage alternators and Motors.
Core Responsibilities:
- Continuous improvement: Define, develop, and implement strategies for continuous improvement within the supplier's quality systems and manufacturing processes.
- Supplier quality systems: Lead the assessment, development, and improvement of supplier quality management systems to meet or exceed internal and regulatory standards.
- Inspection methodology: Design and enforce standardized inspection and testing procedures for supplier, incoming materials and components by AOI.
- Process standardization: Work with suppliers to establish and maintain consistent manufacturing processes to reduce variation and increase reliability.
- Cost of poor quality (COPQ) reduction: Actively work with suppliers to identify and eliminate the root causes of defects and failures, thereby minimizing costs associated with rejections, scrap, and rework.
- Zero defect methodology: Drive a mindset and culture of "getting it right the first time" among suppliers, with the goal of eliminating defects rather than just detecting them.
- First-time run (FTR) concept: Implement and oversee the FTR concept to ensure that components and assemblies are produced correctly on the first attempt,
improving efficiency and quality.
- Product focus: Directly oversee the quality and continuous improvement activities related to low, medium, and high-voltage alternators and motors.
Other roles and responsibilities:
- Safe launch Plan : Responsible for securing a Protected Launch Plan” for NPD parts from suppliers and ensure no delay in developments and No major quality issues
- Quality management plans: Develop and maintain quality plans for suppliers that define clear expectations, performance targets, and requirements for all outsourced materials and components.
- Quality issue resolution: Collaborate with internal engineering, Procurement, purchasing, and production teams to address and resolve non-conformance issues in a timely manner. This includes initiating corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) with suppliers.
- Supplier Performance monitoring: Track and analyse key performance indicators (QCDS) for suppliers, such as defect rates and on-time delivery, cost and generate regular reports for management.
- Process improvement: Facilitate root cause analysis (RCA) with suppliers to implement continuous improvement initiatives that enhance product quality and process efficiency.
- Documentation control: Maintain accurate records of all supplier quality activities, including audit findings, performance metrics, and quality agreements.
- New Product Introduction (NPI): Support the launch of new products by working with suppliers to ensure compliance with quality standards and to manage pre-production qualification processes like Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
- Regulatory compliance: Ensure that suppliers adhere to all relevant industry and regulatory standards, such as ISO 9001, IEC and IATF regulations.
- Training and development: Provide technical guidance and training to suppliers on quality standards and best practices to improve their performance.
Key deliverables:
- Approved supplier list (ASL) management: Maintaining an updated list of qualified suppliers based on continuous performance monitoring and evaluation.
- Supplier development plans: Formal plans created in collaboration with strategic suppliers that outline continuous improvement projects, training initiatives, and performance targets.
- Technical training for suppliers: Documentation of technical guidance, specifications, and training provided to suppliers to improve their manufacturing processes and quality mindset.
- New Product Introduction (NPI) qualification reports: For new or revised products, reports documenting the successful PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) or other qualification steps that ensure supplier readiness before mass production.
