The Material Planner is responsible for ensuring uninterrupted material availability to support production schedules while optimizing inventory levels. This role involves demand analysis, material requirement planning (MRP), inventory management, excess and obsolete inventory control, and cross-functional coordination with procurement, production, program management, and customers.
Key Responsibilities
Material Planning & Inventory Management
- Conduct daily reviews with the Purchasing team to ensure Explicit-to-Build (CTB) status aligns with customer commitments and demand requirements.
- Run and manage Material Requirements Planning (MRP) processes to ensure timely procurement of materials.
- Monitor inventory levels and maintain optimal stock to prevent shortages and excess inventory.
- Release and close work orders according to the approved production plan.
- Track material availability and ensure on-time support for manufacturing operations.
Demand Planning & Forecasting
- Analyze customer demand and forecast material requirements based on lead times and supply constraints.
- Provide updates to Program Managers (PMs) regarding material availability and Customer Material Lead Time (CMLT) to support demand loading and customer commitments.
- Conduct regular forecasting analysis using historical data and market trends to improve forecast accuracy.
- Identify potential material shortages and implement corrective actions proactively.
Excess & Obsolete (E&O;) Inventory Management
- Prepare and analyze Excess and Obsolete (E&O;) inventory reports.
- Coordinate with Program Managers and customers regarding E&O; claims and recovery actions.
- Monitor inventory aging and drive initiatives to reduce excess and obsolete materials.
Engineering Change Management
- Participate in Engineering Change Notice (ECN) meetings.
- Assess and communicate obsolete material exposure resulting from engineering changes.
