General Purpose: UCAM is seeking a dynamic and technically proficient Health & Safety officer to ensure that the workplace complies with safety regulations, preventing accidents, and fostering a safe working environment for employees. This role is crucial because manufacturing often involves potentially hazardous activities, such as operating heavy machinery, handling chemicals, or working in high-noise environments, and should be able to manage efficiently.
Main/ Essential Task:
- Knowledge of Regulations: Familiarity with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards or equivalent local regulations.
- Ability to assess risks and develop actionable safety measures.
- Recognize potential hazards and ensure strict compliance with safety standards.
- Relevant certifications, such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent, are often required.
- Reduce workplace accidents and injuries.
- Minimize legal and financial risks associated with non-compliance.
- Improve employee morale and productivity by creating a safe environment.
- Organize safety training programs for employees, including recent hires.
- Provide guidance on the safe operation of machinery and handling of hazardous materials.
- Inspect machinery and safety equipment regularly to ensure proper functioning.
- Monitor workplace conditions, such as air quality, noise levels, and temperature, to ensure they are within safe limits.
- Develop and implement emergency response plans, including fire drills and evacuation procedures.
- Ensure first aid kits and emergency equipment are available and accessible.
- Work with management, engineers, and employees to promote a culture of safety.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies during inspections or audits
