AS400 / IBM i Modernization Architect

Job Summary:
We are looking for a Senior AS400 / IBM i Modernization Architect with solid hands-on expertise in RPG/RPGLE, CL/CLLE and DB2 to support a long-term legacy modernization program.
Key Responsibilities:
Reverse-engineer and assess large, complex and undocumented AS400/RPG applications.
Analyze application dependencies, business logic and batch processes and classify programs based on complexity and business criticality.
Define and support AS400 modernization, migration and transformation strategies.
Work with cloud/data teams on Azure/AWS, ETL/ELT, data migration and API integration.
Support modernization of legacy applications and integration with modern data platforms.
Create technical assessments, dependency maps, migration plans and architecture documentation.
Lead AS400 modernization activities and collaborate with business, technical and cloud/data stakeholders.




Leverage automation and AI-assisted code analysis tools for legacy application assessment.
Required Skills:
10–15 years of AS400 / IBM i experience.
Strong RPG/RPGLE, CL/CLLE, DB2 and SQL expertise.
Proven experience in AS400 modernization and legacy application reverse engineering.
Strong understanding of application dependency/impact analysis and data migration.
Experience with ETL/ELT, APIs, batch processing and data integration.
Exposure to Azure/AWS and modern data platforms.
Strong communication, stakeholder management and technical leadership skills.

Good to Have:
COBOL, Java, Kafka/CDC, Databricks, scripting, Git/DevOps and AI-assisted legacy code analysis.
Ideal candidate: An experienced AS400 architect who can bridge legacy IBM i applications with modern cloud/data architecture and take ownership of a multi-year modernization initiative.
