Job DescriptionThe Associate Consultant Gastroenterologist provides specialized care for patients with digestive system, liver, pancreatic, and gastrointestinal disorders. The role involves outpatient consultations, inpatient management, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary diseases.
- Conduct outpatient clinics and inpatient rounds.
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as:
- Upper GI endoscopy (EGD)
- Colonoscopy
- Versatile sigmoidoscopy
- Polypectomy
- Endoscopic hemostasis
- Other advanced endoscopic procedures (based on training and privileges)
- Interpret laboratory, imaging, and pathology results.
- Develop and implement patient management plans.
- Provide emergency gastroenterology consultations when required.
- Maintain accurate medical records and clinical documentation.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case discussions.
- Adhere to hospital quality, safety, and infection-control protocols.
- Engage in clinical audits, research, teaching, and continuous medical education activities.
Qualifications:
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree.
- MD/DNB in General Medicine (or equivalent).
- DM/DNB/Fellowship in Gastroenterology.
- Valid medical registration/license as per local regulatory requirements.
Experience
- Typically 0-5 years of post-specialization experience (varies by organization).
- Experience in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy preferred.
- Exposure to hepatology and GI emergency management is desirable.
