This role owns every direct conversation the company has with its users outside the product itself. Email, WhatsApp, support, and community all sit under one person because they are the same job viewed from four angles: knowing what users care about and saying something worth their attention. The role is measured on activation, retention, and community depth, not on volume of output.

The company is looking for a distinct voice rather than a competent operator. The person in this seat writes in a way that sounds like a human being with opinions, argues for creative positions that have not been validated by a competitor first, and holds those positions in a room where the founder disagrees.

Core responsibilities

Lifecycle and email

Design and build the full automated lifecycle programme covering onboarding, activation, feature adoption, usage-triggered nudges, expansion prompts, dormancy recovery, renewal,



and win-back, with branching logic driven by product behaviour rather than by time delays alone.

Own email infrastructure and deliverability as a technical discipline. This includes authentication records, domain warm-up, sending reputation monitoring, list hygiene, engagement-based suppression, and diagnosis when inbox placement degrades.

Build and maintain segmentation from product and billing data, and structure event tracking with engineering so that campaign triggers reflect real usage rather than proxy signals.

Run a continuous testing programme across subject lines, content structure, timing, and offer framing, and report results against a stated hypothesis with an honest account of what failed.

Write the copy. This is a hands-on writing role and it is not delegated to an agency.
