JOB DESCRIPTION – STUDENT COUNSELLOR

Position: Student Counsellor
Department: Student Welfare / School Counselling
Reporting To: Principal / Vice Principal / School Management
Location: School Campus

Job Purpose

The Student Counsellor is responsible for providing guidance, emotional support, and counselling to students to help them manage academic, personal, social, behavioural, and emotional challenges. The counsellor will work closely with students, parents, teachers, and school management to promote students’ overall well-being and development.

Key Responsibilities1. Student Counselling
- Provide individual and group counselling to students as required.
- Identify students facing academic, behavioural, emotional, social, or personal difficulties.
- Maintain a supportive, confidential, and non-judgmental environment.
- Help students develop healthy coping mechanisms, self-confidence, communication skills, and decision-making abilities.
- Conduct regular follow-ups with students requiring continued support.

2. Academic & Career Guidance




- Assist students in identifying their academic strengths, interests, and areas of improvement.
- Provide guidance regarding subject selection, academic performance, and study habits.
- Support senior students with career exploration, higher education options, entrance examinations, and career planning.
- Organize career guidance sessions, aptitude assessments, and awareness programmes where required.

3. Behavioural & Emotional Support
- Monitor students who demonstrate significant changes in behaviour, attendance, academic performance, or social interaction.
- Work with teachers and parents to understand and address student concerns.
- Assist in conflict resolution and peer-related issues.
- Promote positive behaviour, empathy, respect, and emotional well-being among students.
- Escalate responsible concerns to the Principal/Management and appropriate professionals when required.
