Job Purpose

The Librarian is responsible for managing and developing the school library as a agile learning resource centre that supports teaching, learning, research, and reading habits among students and staff. The Librarian promotes information literacy, reading culture, and effective use of library resources in alignment with CBSE guidelines and school objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Library Management
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the school library.
- Organize, classify, catalogue, and maintain books, journals, magazines, newspapers, and digital resources.
- Ensure proper accessioning, shelving, stock verification, and inventory management.
- Maintain library records, issue-return registers, membership records, and circulation statistics.
- Conduct annual stock verification and prepare reports.

2. Collection Development
- Identify, select, and recommend books, reference materials, e-resources, and subscriptions suitable for various age groups.
- Procure and update library resources based on CBSE curriculum requirements and student interests.




- Weed out outdated, damaged, or irrelevant materials as per library policy.
- Maintain liaison with publishers, vendors, and book distributors.

3. Student Engagement & Reading Promotion
- Foster a culture of reading and lifelong learning among students.
- Conduct library periods, storytelling sessions, book reviews, reading challenges, and literary activities.
- Organize Book Week, Reading Month, Author Talks, Book Fairs, and literacy programmes.
- Guide students in selecting age-appropriate reading materials.

4. Curriculum Support
- Collaborate with teachers to provide curriculum-related resources.
- Assist students and teachers in research projects, assignments, and reference work.
- Support classroom learning through resource recommendations and information services.
- Develop resource lists and reading recommendations for different subjects.

5. Information Literacy & Digital Learning
