To operate, monitor and maintain radar equipment in order to guarantee the safe and effective passage of vessels within the port area in order to drive navigation safety within the limits of RIL SOPs, guidelines and statutory compliances
SECTION III: KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES OF THE ROLE
Responsibilities
Navigation Assistance/ Marine Operations
Facilitate communication between ships and the port facility, as well as between ships including ship-to-shore and ship-to-ship radio communications, relaying important information such as berthing instructions, weather updates, and safety protocols as per SOPs
Operate and monitor radar systems to track and identify vessels within the port area; Identify potential collision risks and promptly alert vessel operators and relevant authorities to take necessary actions and mitigate potential hazards
Interpret radar data, including vessel positions, speeds, and courses, to ensure safe navigation and prevent collisions / close quarters scenarios
Provide navigational assistance to vessels entering or leaving the port
Coordinate response efforts in case of emergencies and alert relevant parties, coordinate search and rescue operations, and facilitate communication between emergency responders and affected vessels or personnel
Equipment Repair & Maintenance
Conduct routine inspections of radar equipment like VHF etc. and related infrastructure to ensure optimal maintenance and upkeep; Troubleshoot technical issues, and coordinate repairs or replacements as necessary
Maintain an inventory of spare parts, consumables, and critical components required for the equipment
