Job Purpose
The 'UT Technician' will perform Ultrasonic Testing (UT) on cast and forged components to detect internal discontinuities, ensuring full compliance with client specification, internal quality procedures, international codes (e.g., EN, ISO, ASME, ASTM), TCF EHSS safety regulations. This role is critical for verifying the integrity of high-stress parts, maintaining meticulous inspection records, and providing cross-functional NDT activities including Radiographic Testing (RT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Penetrant Testing (PT), and Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Visual Testing (VT).
Job Responsibilities
- Receive and execute the day-to-day Ultrasonic Testing (UT) inspection schedule for production lines.
- Maintain NDE Shop inventory stocks for NDE Consumables required for day-to-day operations.
- Prepare detailed UT Scan Plan and Technique Sheets based on relevant code standards (e.g., ASME, ASTM, EN) and specific customer requirements to ensure 100% volumetric coverage.
- Coordination and Technique explanation to the TPI,
customers and auditors while UT audit or inspection.
- Capable of recommending verification blocks preparation according to job, materials and specs.
- Perform daily verification checks for NDE Method and preventive maintenance on transducers, cables, and flaw detectors to ensure system reliability.
- Set up and calibrate NDE equipment and probes. This includes using calibration blocks to verify range, velocity, and sensitivity in accordance with written instructions and technique sheets.
- Create and evaluate DAC (Distance Amplitude Curve) or DGS (Distance Gain Size) curves for existing blocks and technique sheet.
- Perform & Ensure component surfaces are cleaned (removing scale, slag, or roughness) prior to inspection, following specific technique sheets to ensure optimal sound transmission.
- Evaluate and interpret ultrasonic signals to characterize discontinuities such as porosity, shrinkage, cracks, or laps based on acceptance criter
