Job Summary
The Lab Assistant supports the effective functioning of the school's science laboratories by preparing equipment and materials for practical classes, maintaining laboratory safety, and ensuring that laboratory resources are organized and in valuable working condition.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare laboratory equipment, chemicals, and materials for science practical sessions.
- Assist teachers during laboratory experiments and demonstrations.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of all laboratory areas.
- Store chemicals, equipment, and specimens according to safety guidelines.
- Keep an inventory of laboratory equipment, chemicals, and consumables.
- Report damaged or faulty equipment and arrange for repairs or replacements when required.
- Dispose of laboratory waste safely and in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Ensure that safety equipment such as first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and eye wash stations are available and functional.
- Support students during practical sessions by providing guidance on the safe handling of laboratory equipment.
- Maintain records of laboratory stock, purchases, and usage.
- Assist in setting up science exhibitions, projects, and laboratory activities.
- Perform any other laboratory-related duties assigned by the school administration.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Science or a related field.
- Previous experience in a school or educational laboratory is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of laboratory equipment, chemicals, and safety procedures.
- Familiarity with inventory management and record-keeping.
