Job Description
We are seeking a
Principal Tunnel Engineer – Underground Structures (Mining & Civil)
to provide technical leadership in the design and delivery of underground structures for mining and civil infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will lead multidisciplinary design teams, provide technical governance, drive design excellence, and ensure the successful delivery of projects from feasibility through detailed design and construction support. The role requires robust engineering expertise, project leadership capability, and a commitment to developing technical talent across the business.

Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of underground structures including:
- Shaft linings
- Tunnel and cavern linings
- Declines and access tunnels
- Underground chambers and excavations
- Portal structures
- Retaining and support structures associated with underground works. [Head - Int...ture, UK 1 | Word]
- Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams across mining and civil underground infrastructure projects.




- Provide technical leadership for structural analysis and design considering:
- Ground loading and ground-structure interaction
- Hydrostatic and groundwater pressures
- Construction staging and temporary works loading
- Operational and long-term durability requirements
- Constructability and risk considerations
- Direct the preparation, review, and approval of engineering calculations, reports, specifications, and design deliverables.
- Lead design reviews, risk assessments, value engineering studies, and quality assurance activities.
- Coordinate interfaces between structural, geotechnical, mining, civil, mechanical, and construction disciplines.
- Ensure compliance with client requirements, industry standards, and WSP procedures.
- Support project planning, programme management, resource allocation, and budget control.
- Mentor and develop engineers towards technical excellence and professional accreditation.
