Role Description
The Department of Language and Linguistic Science is seeking to appoint 2 Associate Lecturers in Problem-Based Learning from 21 September 2026 to contribute to our first-year module Understanding Language in the Real World. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the delivery and facilitation of an innovative module using the problem-based learning (PBL) pedagogy.
This Post Is Offered On a Part time, Term Time Only Basis, 0.4 FTE, On a Fixed Term (Semester 1) At Grade 6. The Successful Candidate(s) Will
Have relevant qualifications and experience in teaching in higher education
Be a highly experienced teacher in linguistics or closely related area
Be a team player able to work closely with the module convenor and the other teaching assistants

The Department of Language and Linguistic Science at the University of York offers a variety of courses in languages, linguistics, translation and interpreting. Role
To facilitate problem-based learning style seminars and to make sure students work effectively in small groups.
To monitor student engagement in seminars.
To mark and assess formative and summative coursework.
To contribute to the weekly team meeting with the module convenor and fellow teaching assistants, and attend the weekly lectures.
To undertake effectively a range of administrative responsibilities.
