It is imperative to understand the business processes and market dynamics in detail, and then identify opportunities for IT interventions to benefit business. This requires knowledge of business as well as technology so that the improvement opportunities identified are very relevant to the business and the solutions proposed provide high returns

- Continually identifying opportunities for IT improvements and finding and proposing solutions
- Gaining buy-in of stakeholders for business cases on IT improvements
- Convincing the business of perks from investment in IT. Quantifying tangible returns from IT investments
