Supervises: Embryologists, Junior Embryologists, Trainee Embryologists, Andrology Technicians and Laboratory Support Staff
Job Purpose
The Senior Embryologist is responsible for leading the embryology laboratory, ensuring excellence in assisted reproductive technology (ART) procedures, maintaining the highest standards of laboratory quality, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and clinical outcomes. The role requires technical expertise, leadership, innovation, and effective collaboration with clinicians and multidisciplinary teams to deliver exceptional fertility care.
1. Embryology Laboratory Operations
The Senior Embryologist shall independently perform, supervise, and monitor all embryology laboratory procedures while ensuring adherence to established protocols and internationally accepted standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform all IVF and ICSI laboratory procedures independently.
- Handle oocyte identification, denudation, grading, and preparation.
- Perform conventional IVF and Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI).
- Conduct sperm preparation using appropriate laboratory techniques.
- Assess fertilization and embryo development.
- Grade embryos using accepted morphological criteria.
- Perform blastocyst culture and evaluation.
- Conduct assisted hatching procedures where indicated.
- Perform embryo biopsy for preimplantation genetic testing (where applicable).
- Perform vitrification and warming of embryos, oocytes, and sperm.
- Prepare embryos for transfer according to clinical protocols.
- Ensure accurate witnessing of all laboratory procedures.
- Maintain optimal laboratory conditions throughout treatment cycles.
- Handle difficult and complex embryology cases with skilled competence.
