Research Intern — Deep-RL Halftoning Team
CISL, the Constrained Image Synthesis Lab, is a student-led research collective focused on making image generation usable in industrial, business, and real-world deployment contexts. Current image-generation systems are often visually strong but unreliable when outputs must satisfy structural, physical, colour, print, or downstream production constraints. CISL develops constrained image-synthesis systems that are technically usable, controllable, auditable, and compatible with professional workflows. Our current research streams include inference-time control of diffusion models, print-aware halftoning, and industrial colour-space conversion.
The Deep-RL Halftoning Team is now moving beyond benchmarking and into algorithm development. Halftoning converts continuous-tone images into printable dot patterns while preserving perceived tone, structure, texture, and detail under physical print constraints.
Our next objective is to develop a deep reinforcement learning algorithm that generates high-quality binary dot patterns while optimizing perceptual, structural, and print-aware objectives.
This is a technically demanding research opportunity involving deep reinforcement learning, image processing, reward design, state-action formulation, perceptual evaluation, experimental design, and algorithm development. We are looking for candidates who can take ownership of assigned work, communicate consistently, debug difficult problems, and contribute at a serious technical level.

- Research-Oriented Coding Intern
We are looking for one candidate with robust research-oriented programming ability. The work will involve reading papers, interpreting partially specified methods, implementing models from scratch, debugging experimental pipelines, running ablation studies, maintaining reproducible experiments, and writing clean research code.
Applicants should have strong Python skills and practical experience with tools
