1. Provide effective leadership of the "medical-laboratory service, in accordance with institutional assignment of such responsibilities.
2. Relate and function effectively with applicable accrediting and regulatory agencies, appropriate administrative officials of the healthcare community, and the patient population served, and providers of formal agreements when required.
3. Correlate abnormal results with clinical presentations and offer diagnostic and treatment guidance to requesting physicians.
4. Communicate urgent or critical results in a timely and clinically appropriate manner.
5. Review quality control (IQC) and interpret results & authorize of PT / EQA examinations.
6. Ensure that there are appropriate numbers of staff with the required education, training and competence.
7. Conduct competency assessment of departmental laboratory technician as and when required by laboratory defined procedure.

Serve as a contributing member of the medical staff for those facilities served, if applicable.
9. Ensure the provision of clinical advice with respect to the choice of examinations, use of service and interpretation of examination results.
10. To participate in the management review meetings.
11. Finalize role, responsibility & authority of key members of the laboratory.
12. Supervise the working of the Department.
13. Conduct & attend meetings and seminars with the technical management team and field Force.
14. The pathologist is responsible for documenting and communicating critical findings or remarks in the patient's laboratory report.
15. Follow latest CLSI or EUCAST guideline for reporting results of antimicrobial drug sensitivity.
16. Participate in training & continual education programs conducted by organization and quality assurance team.
